D. Teaching/Conducting or Related Experience

2014 to present: Artistic Director and Conductor of The Great Lakes Wind Symphony. This new professional wind band is one of only a handful of groups of this type in the United States. Employing 48 professional players, the groups was established by partners Adam Brennan and Ryan Pritchard in Rochester, NY in the summer of 2014 and held its debut concert on December 27th, 2014 in the Kodak Center for the Performing Arts in Rochester, NY.

2014 to present: Director of the Wellsboro Town Band. The Wellsboro town band has a long and rich history. Dr. Adam F. Brennan was invited to take the leadership of the ensemble in 2013, debuting as the conductor during the 2014 season. The groups is comprised of amateur and professional players ranging in age from 14 years to 86 years and performs in Wellsboro, PA during the months of June through July.

1995-present: Director of Bands and Percussion Studies, Coordinator of Graduate and Undergraduate Conducting, Mansfield University, Mansfield, Pennsylvania

Duties include administrating the band program, directing the Concert Wind Ensemble, the Pride of Pennsylvania Marching Band, and all percussion ensembles. Further responsibilities include teaching instrumental conducting techniques to undergraduate and graduate students, percussion pedagogy to percussion performance majors and percussion techniques to music education, therapy and music business majors. Administration of the band program includes handling budgets, organizing major events such as the annual Band and Orchestra Festival, the annual Percussion Symposium, on campus and off campus concerts by wind and percussion ensembles, recruiting and recruiting tours, recording projects and coordinating the summer youth music camps, and maintaining the band library of nearly 1700 works. In addition, all drill and music is specially written and/or arranged for he marching band by Dr. Brennan.

1995 – present: Coordinate Instrumental Summer music programs at Mansfield University. This has included camps for ages 8-14 and 15-18. Developed an honors band program in 2005 that continues still.

1995-present: Creator, Logistical Director and Coordinator of the MU Music Department Annual PRISM Concerts. Lighting and staging design, program development and publicity materials.

2007 -2008; 2012 – 2013: Strategic Planning Committee Chair; coordinate the creation of the university strategic plan, hold discussions to gather data, survey alumni and community members, draft a document for submission to cabinet and develop an implementation plan.

2008 – 2012: Oversee and facilitate the Strategic Plan Implementation Teams for the university, serve as the Assessment S.P.I.T. chair; report directly to the president and cabinet on progress made.

2008 – 2009; Serve as the University Assessment Co- Coordinator. Develop and implement methods for university-wide assessment. Completed in 2009, the coordinators implemented an approached based on Assessment in higher Education/Baldrige Model and implement this with numerous departments.

2009– present; President and CEO of B&P Productions, LLC., Coordinator of web- based publishing company dedicated to the promotion of excellent band music and providing composer’s of quality literature a venue to promote and distribute their music. The company is based in Wellsboro, PA and is the exclusive distributor for Mark Records MP3 files of Midwest Band Clinic Recordings. 2005 -2006: Creative Director of the Rochester International Marine Tattoo. Duties include serving as arranger/writer for all massed ensemble music, creating the flow and show design and working with other staff to insure logistics and lighting needs can be met.

2005 – 2009; Vice President and Creative Director of Webfield Productions, Inc., Coordinator of web-based publishing company dedicated to the promotion of excellent band music and providing composer’s of quality literature a venue to promote and distribute their music. The company is based in Rochester, New York and is the exclusive distributor for Mark Records MP3 files of Midwest Band Clinic Recordings. 2002 – 2008; Chair, Music Department and Director of Bands, Mansfield University.

Duties include administrating for the music department of 18 full-time and 4 adjunct faculty. Music department enrolls 240 undergraduate music majors in five degrees which include a Bachelor of Music in Music Education, Bachelor of Music in Performance, Bachelor of Music In Music Industry, Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy and a Bachelor of Arts in Music. MU also has a Master of Arts in Music Education, Master of Arts in Choral Conducting and a Master of Arts in Instrumental Conducting which was developed by Dr. Adam F. Brennan.

In addition to these administrative duties, Dr. Brennan maintains his role as Director of Bands and coordinator of the instrumental conducting program and continues to teach courses in applied and class conducting. He also continues to direct the MU Wind Concert Wind Ensemble and Marching Band.

2002 – 2004: Pit Arranger and Consultant for the Empire Statesmen Drum and Bugle Corps, Rochester, New York

Duties included writing and arranging for the front ensemble of the percussion caption in the drum corps. Further duties were to act as consultant to the Corps Director, advising on performance aspects of the eight-time World Champion Senior Drum and Bugle Corps and providing clinic and critique for the percussion front ensemble.

Duties include serving as assistant conductor of the University Wind Ensemble and director of the 12:30 Jazz Ensemble. Academic responsibilities include instructing an undergraduate conducting techniques course. Further areas of service included acting as a senator of the music department on the Graduate Student Senate and serving as the secretary to the Graduate Music Students Council.

1989.1995 Assistant Director of Bands and Percussion Western Illinois University Macomb, Illinois 61455

Duties include serving as the assistant conductor to the University Wind Ensemble which performs our concerts and two recruiting tours annually. Other conducting responsibilities include directing one to two of the university’s four jazz bands, coordinating the jazz combo program, directing a percussion ensemble, and coordinating the University recreation band which serves as a basketball pep band and third concert band in the music department. Teaching duties included studio percussion instruction, percussion pedagogy for music education majors, music theory, jazz improvisation, and a course on American Popular Music.

Direct association with major events from the band area at WIU include the organization and administration of the following events: an annual Marching Band contest featuring 24-40 high school bands; an annual Jazz Festival which features 45-60 junior high through university level bands; a Percussion Symposium featuring guest artists and clinicians with over 100 junior high and high school participants annually; a Band Showcase and concert band festival featuring three of the State of Illinois’ finest high school concert bands with guest clinicians and WIU faculty.

Other activities include the organization and administration of tours by concert bands, jazz bands, and percussion ensembles. Recruiting for the department of Music has been a major activity, and includes the first appointment in the history of WIU’s music school as the Department Recruiter.

Duties included directing the Jazz Lab Band, the Jazz Band, and assisting in the teaching of the marching band. Other duties included conducting experiences with the University Wind Ensemble and assistance in the running of the band office.

Director of Bands Kankakee Valley High School Assistant Director of Bands Kankakee Valley Middle School Wheatfield, Indiana

Primary responsibilities included the direction of the concert band, marching band and all small ensembles. Other duties were directed towards the administration and development of the total band program. Courses taught included a basic music theory course and an introduction to jazz improvisation.

1984.86 Head Percussion Instructor and Drill Coordinator Northmen Drum and Bugle Corps Green Bay, Wisconsin

As Head Percussion Instructor and Drill Coordinator, duties included writing and arranging for all aspects of the percussion caption in the drum corps. Further duties included the development of the drill design and execution by the corps. During my two seasons with the Northmen, the drum line captured top honors at the Drum Corps Mid- West Class A-60 percussion caption and finished in the top three at Drum Corps International Class A-60 competition in Madison, Wisconsin.

Commissioned by Wellsboro Middle School to compose a work using student compositional ideas, the result of which was a three movement work entitled, Notes from Wellsboro. Premiered in April of 2009 by the Wellsboro Middle School Band, Mrs. Kimberly Smith, conductor. Published through B&P Music Publishers, LLC, Wellsboro, PA.

Commission Consortium Member of David Gillingham’s Summer 2008, Concerto for Euphonium and Wind Ensemble, May of 2008, premiered at MU with David Hamm, Soloist and Commissioning Consortium Founder, Spring 2010.

Mansfield University Bands are a member of the Pennsylvania Collegiate Bandmaster’s Association and are participants in the commissioning of composer Andrew Boysen for a new work honoring the 60th anniversary of the association in 2007. The work is entitled Orpheus and Euridice. Dr. Brennan serves as the commissioning project Co-Chair.

Mansfield University Bands is a member of a consortium of universities currently commissioning a Symphony in Three Movements by composer John Stevens. Russell Mikkleson at the University of Ohio is coordinating these efforts. The work was completed in 2007 and is currently part of a recording project being undertaken with the MU Wind Ensemble.

DREAM commissioned by Tua Beta Sigma National Honorary Band Sorority in 2007 and premiered by the MU Wind Ensemble in May of 2007. Published through B&P Music Publishers, LLC, Wellsboro, PA.

The Beta Omicron Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia has commissioned Dr. Adam Brennan to write a work for band and chorus in honor of their 80th year of service. The work is entitled Red, Black, and Gold! and was premiered on March 29th, 2007 as part of the university’s sesquicentennial celebration and inaugural command performances for MU President Dr. Maravene Loeschke. Tenebrae (Dark Hours) was written in 2003 and premiered by the Mansfield University Concert Wind Ensemble on November 23, at Mansfield University, Steadman Theatre. Published through B&P Music Publishers, LLC, Wellsboro, PA.

Traditions was written in honor of the 50th reunion of the Mansfield University Concert Wind Ensemble and was premiered on April 26, 2003 with Adam F. Brennan, conducting. Published through B&P Music Publishers, LLC, Wellsboro, PA.

Dream Dancer by Michael Colgrass had its Pennsylvania Premiere at the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association Convention with saxophone soloist Dr. Joseph Murphy, Dr. Adam F. Brennan conducting with the Mansfield University Concert Wind Ensemble on April 20, 2001.

Invisible Soundtrack (Hero) by Robert Maggio was premiered at the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association Convention in April of 2001 in a special session by the MU Concert Wind Ensemble on behalf of the composer and the Pennsylvania Chapter of Phi Beta MU.

Spark by Carolyn Bremer for the Mansfield University Concert Wind Ensemble, commissioned by MU Bands, the local chapters of Kappa Kappa Psi, Tau Beta Sigma and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.

Goals and Objectives

To serve as a director of bands, conductor of symphonic winds, and director of graduate conducting studies at the University level in such a capacity that will allow for opportunities to encourage and actively promote the growth and development of the highest standards of musical creativity, performance, education and research. To work among a faculty whose collective abilities provide the stimulation for personal and professional growth, and whose goals and objectives are also to bring forth integrity in music education and performance. To contribute to university development and mission in such a way as to inspire colleagues and students to create a positive and long lasting impact in their profession and community.
