Fundraising and Business Development Manager

Terms:

o  37.5 hours (full-time). Applicants seeking part time work with a minimum commitment of 3 + days per week will be considered on merit

o  Fixed Term Contract (1 Year). A permanent position may be considered following this period, based on results

o  Salary £30,000-£35,000 depending on experience

o  Paid annual leave entitlement of 25 days + bank holidays pro rata (each annual leave year)

o  Entitlement to join the Company pension scheme. The Company makes matched contributions up to 6% of salary to an approved pension scheme (details of which can be notified to candidates on request).

o  Hot desking primarily at our Bath office but required to work from any of our office locations.

o  Reports to the Director

Context for role:

Citizens Advice BANES is the leading provider of advice services to Bath and NE Somerset residents mainly on debt and welfare benefit problems and with the knowledge and experience to tackle a greater range of underlying issues giving rise to those problems.

As a charity, and operating within the exacting standards set by the national Citizens Advice organisation, it delivers free advice through a team of over 100 volunteers through face to face sessions in three One Stop Shops alongside partner agencies, casework appointments in Edgar Buildings and The Hollies and provides telephone advice every weekday. It delivers several projects in partnership with other agencies including Macmillan, Dorothy House, MS Society, Curo and Bath MIND.

It also collects, analyses and reports on the nature and causes of client problems so as to campaign for regional and national changes in policies as suggested from evidential research.

Role purpose:

1. In collaboration with the Director and nominated Trustees, to develop, evaluate, and document a new fundraising strategy which aims to put the service onto a more diverse and financially sustainable basis by 2018.

2. As a key component of the above, to establish, implement and deliver a new income generation programme to fund the strategic plan.

3. Review and strengthen relationships with current and prospective funders

Main Duties & Responsibilities

A.  Planning and Development

1. To coordinate the development of a new fundraising strategy which aims to put the service onto a more diverse and financially sustainable basis by 2018.

B.  Income Generation

As a key component of that plan

1.Research, identify and pursue short and long term fundraising opportunities that match CA BANES aims and activities, including statutory funding, corporate sponsorship, long-term grant opportunities, private and trust funding, legacy giving, and to explore opportunities for income generation via subsidiary social enterprise companies.

2. Prepare, implement, review and report on the income generation plan with key deliverables and realisable targets

3. Work in close collaboration with the Director and Senior Management team to ensure resourcing requirements to provide new services can be met and appropriate training, upskilling and support is given to advisors and volunteers’ as appropriate

4. Preparation and execution of high quality funding bids and lead any attendant negotiations relating to them.

C.  Relationships

1.  Form strong working relationships with the Trustee Board, the Director and the management team ensuring the sharing of skills and knowledge, market intelligence and best practice

2.  CA BANES currently has a team of volunteers (Friends of CA BANES) focussing on fundraising. This position will include chairing this committee and providing leadership and direction.

D.  Continuous Improvement

1.  Maintain an awareness of charity law, especially where it relates to fundraising

2.  Attend staff meetings and internal / external forums and meetings as required

3.  Attend Trustee Board Meetings and present on quarterly results against the targets agreed in the fundraising strategy

E.  Person Specification

1 Educated to degree level or equivalent professional experience
2 Experience of developing and communicating a fundraising strategy, with the ability to turn this strategy into realistic and achievable plans
3 Competent in financial analysis, forecasting and reporting
4 Experience in preparing successful funding bids and tender documents
5 Self-starter with ability to work proactively on own initiative
6 Demonstrable track record in networking and building successful relationships, and influencing and collaborating with a wide range of people and organisations.
7 Experience in the not for profit sector. An understanding of the services in and around BANES would be desirable.
8 Effective and confident communicator with the ability to lead, motivate and inspire
9 Ability to respond creatively and flexibly to fundraising opportunities that might arise at short notice while keeping sight of the longer term
10 IT literate – confident in the use of MS applications including Word, Excel and Powerpoint
11 Ability to commit to and work within the aims, principles and policies of the Citizens Advice Service.
12 Have a valid driving licence and access to personal transport or equivalent to ensure coverage of the immediate and wider area (including nationally)
13 Able to undertake role with flexibility including some evening and weekend work as required
