Mother’s Day

Anna M. Jarvis (1864 - 1948) first suggested the national observance of an annual day honoring all mothers, because she loved her own mother so dearly. At a memorial service for her mother on May 10, 1908, Miss Jarvis gave a carnation (her mother’s favorite flower) to each person who attended. Within the next few years, the idea of a day to honor mothers gained popularity, and Mother’s Day was observed in a number of large cities in the United States. On May 9, 1914, by an act of Congress, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day. He established the day as a time for “public expression of our love and reverence for the mothers of our country.” By then, it had become customary to wear white carnations to honor departed mothers and red to honor the living, a custom that continues to this day.

Children’s Home Month

May is Children’s Home Month for Original Free Will Baptists. The annual “Change For Children” is underway. This campaign increases awareness of our childcare ministry and generates financial support for crucial months during this summer. As always, the Children’s Home asks that you will join them in this campaign to raise funds to help children in need. The blue bags for this program are on the Usher’s table. We ask that all “Change For Children’s Bags” or other gifts for the Children’s Home be turned in by Sunday, May, 24th.

Convention of OFWB

The 103rd Annual Session of the Original Free Will Baptist Convention will be May 20-21, 2015 on the campus of the University of Mount Olive. The theme of the convention is: “Strengthening the Church.” We need three delegates to represent our church, if would be willing to attend, contact the pastor. Our Pastor service as Vice-President of the Convention. Remember him as the Convention leaders in your prayers.

On June the 7th La Grange First Church will celebrate its 99th year of Christian Ministry in this community. This will be the beginning of our Centennial Celebration for 2016. Dr. Michael R. Pelt will be our guest speaker for the day. He served the church as pastor from October 1, 1953-October 1, 1955. The theme of our Centennial Celebration will be: “Celebrating a Century of Grace.” This will be an exciting year in the life our church.

Sunday Night Live

We began on Sunday, April 12th a study focused on the Biblical meaning of being a Church Member. Our study book is “I Am A Church Member” by Thom S. Rainer. In the pages of this book and study you will discover what church membership really looks like. Get ready for your life to change. Get ready for your church to change. And watch what an impact La Grange First Church can have on our community and, indeed, the entire world.

Bible Study

We began on Wednesday, April 15th a Bible study on an introduction to the books of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. This is not a verse by verse or chapter by chapter study; it is a general introduction to these five books. The purpose is to help the Bible student have a good general understanding and knowledge of these books of the Bible.

Diaper Drive

Sarah Letchworth of our church family has been doing some work with the EPIC (Eastern Pregnancy Clinic). She is sponsoring a “Diaper Drive” for the Clinic. This is a time for the Christians to step up for support Mothers who have chosen not to have an abortion, but give life! This Diaper Drive is missions in action. We will have a basket in the Information Center for you to place your diapers in. Thank you for your help.

Building Program

The foundation for the ministry of the church is found in Acts 2:42 & 47b: “And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine (teaching) and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. “And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved” NKJV. If we will strive to be the Living Church according to these essentials found in the scriptures, God will Bless us.

La Grange First Church understands that we must always be developing our ministries as well as our planning buildings to help support the ministries. The mission of La Grange First Church is clear, we are to glorify God! We seek to fulfill our mission with… Christ-First • Bible-First • Ministry-First. Christ is First at La Grange First Church. Everything we do grows out of our shared commitment to Jesus Christ as the risen Lord. The Bible is First at La Grange First Church. We believe the Bible was inspired by the Holy Spirit and is God’s revealed word to man. The Ministry is First at La Grange First Church. Our calling is to nurture and serve the people of God.

We praise the Lord for the growth of La Grange First. We have experienced steady growth in our membership. This can be seen clearly in the growth of the morning worship service, Sunday school, and youth ministry. In 2007 the average attendance of the Sunday School was 76, March of 2015 is 103; average worship in 2007 was 113, March of 2015 is 169. We are now well over the 80% seating capacity of the sanctuary and several Sunday school classes are overflowing. This is great news! How do we continue to meet these growing needs?
