DRAFT Job Title Fundraising and Communications officer

Accountable to Finance Manager & CEO

Location: Brain And Spinal Injury Centre, 554 Eccles New Road, Salford M5 5AP

Salary Band: £23,000 to £26,000

Hours: full time, part time, job share possible

Job purpose and context

The post holder will have overall responsibility forinitiating community fundraising events and liaison withpotential supporters with the aim of increasingincome. Raising the charity’s profile through digital marketing to supporters and potential supportersin order to increase awareness and support of our work.

BASIC is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed fundraising and communications officer to promote and sell the charity’s services through face-to-face and digital communications leading to increased fundraised income. The charity has an annual turnover of approx £430,000, of which 65% currently comes from grants, donations and fundraised income.

Scope and Limits of Authority:
It is anticipated that the post-holder will have responsibility for an agreed annual fundraising target in line with the level of the post. It is also expected that the post holder will ensure that fundraising expenditure is in line with agreed budgets and that he/she will monitor, address and report any variance to this. Whilst a level of autonomy may be expected at this level, agreement/authority must be sought for any proposed partnerships/sponsorship or other contract affecting the charity.

Areas of responsibility

Fundraising

-To work with the CEO and Administrator at BASIC in maximising the reach of BASIC and consequently increasing income for the charity

-To work with and involve staff members and volunteers in fundraising activities and events.

-To positively promote the work of the charity through relationship building with a wide variety of partnerships both with individuals and organisations, seeking opportunities for donations.

-To contact companies for donations in cash and in kind, sponsorship and raffle prizes.

-To attend cheque presentations ensuring that they are documented for social media.

-To develop ideas for new fundraising events both small scale and larger scale and deliver a range of fundraising events.

-Promote our regular sports and challenge events e.g. Great North Run and Manchester Run, including timely response to external enquiries, motivation and communication with participants.

-Responsibility for event income targets and expenditure in conjunction with the Finance Manager

-To make a positive contribution to the charity, working within all the policies and procedures of BASIC, to attend team meetings, and to function as a member of the wider team.

-To act as ambassador for BASIC, protecting and promoting its good name and reputation at all times.

-To undertake any other duties as deemed reasonable by the CEO of the charity.

Communications

-In liaison with the CEO, implement a digital communications strategy focusing on raising the profile of the charity and its work amongst new and existing supporters and stakeholders.

-Promote BASIC’s unique virtual reality facility using social media, making short films for publication e.g. on Youtube, LinkedIn, Facebook etc.

-Provide regular updating of BASIC’s website, Facebook pages and Twitter accounts.

-Liaison with staff to gather personal interest news stories and links for staff members to publish social media platforms.

-In collaboration with staff providing monthly e-newsletters showing how donors money has contributed to the work of the charity and improvement of individuals’ health and wellbeing.

-Develop new ways to reach potential supporters e.g. exploring establishing a crowd funding appeal, posting pictures onInstagramandinstaGive mobile fundraising.

-Taking advantage of the many positive human-interest stories at BASIC and disseminating information to blogs and e-newsletters that others publish about brain injury and recovery from it.

Other

PERSON SPECIFICATION

1.Knowledge

1.1.To be self-servicing in IT skills e.g. Word processing, Excel and Powerpoint, Microsoft Outlook, database, graphics programmes etc (using Apple Mac).

1.2.To have a good understanding and knowledge of use of social media, of publishing information on facebook, twitter, instagramincluding text, images, short video clips, links to other sites etc.

1.3.To have a good understanding and knowledge of writing and sending e-newsletters via database lists.

1.4.To have a good understanding and knowledge of updating the charity’s website or be wiling to undertake training in this area.

1.5.Knowledge, understanding and experience of planning events and budgeting procedures.

1.6.Knowledge and understanding of the voluntary/charity sector.

1.7.Knowledge, understanding and experience of cause related marketing, employee fundraising, sponsorship campaigns and other ways in which companies support charities.

1.8.Knowledge, understanding and experience of desk and online research sources and techniques.

1.9.Willingness to gain knowledge and understanding of brain injury issues.

1.8 Understanding and commitment to principles of confidentiality and safeguarding.

2.Experience

2.1.Minimum 3 years’ experience of using digital communications.

2.2.Proven experience of working within prescribed budgets

2.3.Proven track record of planning and managing small scale events

2.4.Experience of working without supervision, motivating others and commitment to effective teamwork.

3.Skills/Abilities

3.1.Strong verbal/presentation and communication skills, with the ability to deal competently and confidently with supporters/corporate clients at all levels in all situations.

3.2.Ability to make presentations to individuals or groups using aids and techniques appropriate to the audience, topic and occasion.

3.3.Persuasive, able to foster and promote cooperation and confidence.

3.4.Strong written communication skills with the ability to produce persuasive information and appeals.

3.5.Excellent organisational skills with a thorough attention to detail.

3.6.Able to work under pressure, to multiple priorities and to strict deadlines, prioritising own workload.

3.7.Ability to devise, implement and monitor annual plans and future fundraising strategies – including ability to forecast and provide fundraising income data.

3.8.Ability to analyse a wide range of information, media and financial data for future planning purposes.

3.9.Car driving license and willingness to travel off site

Educated to degree level
