Bakewell Mannerians RUFC Ltd. Minutes of the Annual General Meeting held on Monday 14th May 2012 at The Medway Centre, Bakewell

Present: The attendance list indicated that 26 people attended (10 constitute a Quorum).

1. Apologies for absence: Steve Coates, Rod Bell, Dave Henderson, Martin Pearce, Dan Driscoll

2. Approval of Minutes of previous Annual General Meeting, 9th May 2011 These had previously been posted on the Club Notice Board, were unanimously agreed and signed by the Chairman.

3. Chairman’s Report On the playing side the first team had a good season finishing fifth in the league but only 4 points behind second place Belgrave. 12 games were won and three drawn. We scored more points, 635 (443 against), than everyone except runaway league winners Newark. Great credit to captain Will Moroney, coach Mark Burnett and manager Joe Oldfield. Sorry to be losing Mark - his coaching has moved the club forward and wish him well in his new teaching role. Thanks also to physio Ginny North and fitness guru Tom Oldfield.

The seconds played 16 games, winning 6, points for 445 against 565. That is five more games played than last season. Many thanks to manager Barry Pearson and able stand in manager and captain Jimmy O’Neill.

Well done the minis and juniors on another fine season - will let James give details later. Really enjoyed prize giving day 8 days ago at Calver – did the heart good to see young and old having such a good time. James standing down after 9 years would like to thank him for all work he has done – without him the minis/juniors would not exist. Best of luck to James with U17s next season.

Off the field thanks to Jimmy O’Neill again for arranging dinner dance and camel racing. The president is hoping to hold the wine tasting at Over Haddon in July – it has not been forgotten!

Thank you to all the officers of the club who serve on committees. Bella has confirmed she is the most efficient Secretary in the universe. Dave Henderson has had a difficult year as treasurer with

1 work commitments and RBS causing him grief in equal measure but these difficulties have been resolved and we will hear from him next. Special mention and thanks to Tony Staley for his fund raising particularly with regard to match and ball sponsorship.

A big thank you to head groundsman Paul Webster and his team of Dave, Pete and Will Brocklehurst for their work over the year. Particular thanks to Gammy and his very impressive tackle for making life so much easier.

We all wish Webby full recovery from the injury he sustained during the last match of the season. The club is behind him 100% in bringing the guilty party to justice.

We will talk about the future of the club later - developments at Lady Manners may in due course give us the facilities we need to move forward. In the meantime we must improve training facilities. We need to attract new blood to strengthen our player base and we cannot do that with the present infrastructure.

Having said that well done everyone – we are playing great rugby, having a good time and we run a vibrant club – let’s move it forward.

4. Treasurer’s Report 1. The Treasurer was unable to attend the meeting. The figures will be produced as soon as possible and presented at an Extraordinary Meeting which will be arranged in due course.

8. Any other business 1. Lady Manners Partnership Overview: The school intends to sell off the bottom part of the Highfields site for affordable housing. This sale will help to pay for changing facilities, car parking, two level draining rugby pitches and a floodlit Astroturf area that can be used by the local community. In order to afford these facilities the school will need additional funding from sporting bodies such as Sport England. In order to access this type of funding the school must have a community partner. The Peak Planning Board will make the final decision and they would prefer the club to play at the school. Derbyshire County Council will also have to give permission. Currently Bakewell Mannerians are the preferred partner. It was agreed that the committee should draw up a basic partnership agreement with Lady Manners. It was also suggested that the club looks at pursuing other options that do not need to include the sale of the land. The facilities subcommittee will push on this point and be more proactive in

6 the hope of organising an open discussion/forum with the school. 2. St Anselms are also looking at building a floodlit Astroturf and they hope to submit a planning application during the summer. We would recommend that members of the club write in support of this application. 3. Club Accreditation and the future: Please refer to the attached presentation entitled ‘Bakewell Mannerians – The Future’ delivered by Val Stevenson. The club will need to complete the various roles suggested to complete the new structure of the club (please refer to the last slide in the presentation). A timescale for meetings of each subgroup will be drafted for the next stage. It is important to realise that the club already carries out most of these jobs/roles, it is now simply a case of evidencing it. A 2 year plan including targets will be produced allowing us to achieve accreditation. A huge thank you from everyone to Val Stevenson for leading the Seal of Approval.

9. Date of next Executive Committee meeting Monday 11th June 2013 at 19.30hrs at The Medway Centre
