Job Description: Apprentice Chef

Duties and Accountabilities

. To ensure that all meals are of the highest possible standard

. To adhere to time schedules in preparation and cooking of foods

. To support, with direction, the Chef/Second Chefs and Chefs de Partie on a day-to-day basis by:

o Preparing salad and vegetables o Cooking of vegetables o Preparing and cooking meat/fish for lunch and evening meals o Preparing sweets and desserts . To ensure your actions minimise risks to Health and Safety by:

o working safely and obeying College Health and Safety rules as set out in the College’s Health and Safety Policy, Food Safety Policy, and Staff Handbook; o cleaning kitchen and food preparation areas and equipment as required; o ensuring chemicals are used and stored appropriately; o ensuring all hazards are reported using the College Accident Book

. To work on the Servery when requested by the Chef/Second Chefs/Chefs de Partie

. To clean the kitchen when requested by the Chef/Second Chefs/Chefs de Partie

. To attend a local college of further education to work towards NVQ qualifications

. To work flexibly to ensure effective team work

. To ensure that appropriate clothing / uniform is work at all times

Person Specification

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate that they have:

Terms and Conditions

Appointment: This is a fixed term post for a duration of 4 years, to be filled as soon as possible. The initial period of appointment is probationary, for six months.

Salary: Equivalent to Grade 1 of the Oxford University Pay Scale, with a starting salary between £14,959 and £15,356 per annum, plus monthly shift allowance where applicable. Upon successful completion of NVQ Qualifications there will be the possibility of rising to Grade 2, with a starting salary of £15,765 per annum.

In addition to the salary, Lincoln College will fund the NVQ training course(s).

Pension rights: Oxford Staff Pension Scheme (OSPS)

Meals: Free meals are provided in College when on duty

Hours of Full time, 40 hours per week with split shift allowance where working: appropriate, including College day release to undertake NVQ training.

Annual leave The postholder will be entitled to six weeks paid leave plus 8 days entitlement: Bank Holiday in each year. One week must be taken at Christmas and the remainder to be taken at such times as shall be mutually convenient, and agreed in advance with the relevant manager.

Notice period: During the initial probationary period, notice will be one week on either side. Subsequent to satisfactory review and confirmation in the post the notice period will be one month on either side. Application process
