Position Title: ASM Vice-Chair
Organization Name: Associated Students of Madison
Qualifications: Must be a currently enrolled student at UW-Madison and a Student Council Representative
Incumbent Status: Serves a one-year term with the option of reappointment pending term limits.
Selection Process: Appointed at the first meeting of the ASM session by majority vote of the Student Council. Nominees are given the opportunity to present their qualifications to the SC.
Terms of Office: May 1- April 30
Total Payment: $4,500.00
Hours Per Week: 15 hours per week
Paid Hourly Elsewhere on Campus: No

Explanation of Duties:

  • Constantly reports to the ASM Student Council and ASM Coordinating Council and is an active participant in each body
  • Serves as the primary liaison to the United Council, US Students Association and other membership organizations
  • Coordinates, appoints and leads delegation travel to United Council, USSA and other membership organizations meetings and events
  • With the ASM Chair and Campus Organizer, coordinates the functions among the ASM committees and campaigns
  • With the ASM Chair, collaborates and coalitions with student organizations to convey the current ASM vision, goals and workings
  • With the ASM Chair, runs the ASM recruitment drives and the ASM internship program
  • Establishes travel spending limits in the ASM Internal Budget
  • With the ASM Chair, creates and oversees the administration of stipend accountability guidelines
  • With the ASM Chair, administers the office and personnel procedures
  • Serves on the ASM Nominations Board
  • Allocates untagged items in the ASM Internal Budget following the two-of-three rule
  • Attends and facilitates participation in United Council events pertinent to the Vice-Chair's function
  • Ensures a current and accurate presentation of the Vice-Chair's portion of the ASM website
  • Sets, posts and maintains a minimum of five offices hours per week and spends a minimum of ten additional hours on the work of ASM per week
  • Temporarily fulfills the requirements of the Chair in the absence or vacancy of the Chair
  • Performs all duties and responsibilities and executes all rights within the jurisdiction of and in accordance to the ASM Constitution, Bylaws, Rules, Laws, Legislation or Orders

Educational components of the position:

  • Provides leadership opportunity for UW-Madison students
  • Primary responsibility for insuring that students are being included in the decision making processes regarding their education and student life experiences
  • Provides an excellent opportunity to learn about the structure and inner-workings of the University of Wisconsin-Madison
  • Represents the respective UW-Madison student body on key student issues
