Monday 1. Pattern & Rhythm Powerpoint-take notes and sketch! There is a short quiz at the end of the PPT. 2. Start a Pattern Review Cube: a. Fold a 12"x12" paper in half twice in both directions to get 16 squares. b. Draw a cross on the fold lines: four boxes vertically and three horizontally. c. Draw tabs on both sides of all the vertical squares. d. Write the name of one pattern type (regular) on one square and in the same square, draw the pattern in marker. Repeat for all five pattern types. e. On the last square, write: "Pattern Types by...... (your name). f. Cut out the cube on the tabs and fold all tabs and edges of squares. g. Assemble the cube with glue stick and clear tape. 3. Finish Elements Still Life, due first thing tomorrow.

Tuesday 1. Elements & Principles of Design Still Life is due today! 2. Finish your Pattern Review Cube, due today. 3. Figure drawing day! For your next project, you will need several contour drawings of full human bodies. Your teacher will demonstrate details such as: media (soft pencil), substrate (parchment with manila behind it), drawing boards, clips, contour details, mistakes, number of drawings, negative space. Your goal today is to draw as many full figures in different poses as possible. Today the class will draw the same model at the same time.

Wednesday 1. Get out your figure drawings from yesterday. Did you improve as you went along? What do we need to work on? 2. Continue with figure drawing. Today take turns drawing each other: stand, lie down, sit, crouch, stick one foot and hand on the table, etc. Your goal today is to draw four excellent figures in different poses, improving from yesterday.

Thursday 1. Your teacher will review your improvements in figure drawing contours today. 3. View the Patterned Portraits rubric/instructions. See the Peter Max Posterbook and Scholastic Art Magazine issue on Peter Max for ideas about patterns to fill in your drawing. 4. Patterned Portraits Instructions: a. Draw a border on your large paper in pencil using a ruler. Write your name on the back. b. Flip all drawings onto the back and place three or more of these backward figures in an INFORMAL BALANCE layout on your large paper. The smaller your figures, the more figures you must use in your layout. At least two figures must overlap. c. Use the soft pencil to retrace each figure in your layout. Trace the front figures first! d. Using Ultrafine Sharpies, fill in each shape in the drawing with different patterns. Be creative! Every space must have a pattern. You are encouraged to repeat patterns and invent new ones. Please do not draw any trite motifs such as peace signs or simple flowers. Use your pattern notes, magazines, and your laptop for ideas. Remember Zentangle patterns. Friday 1. Hang your best drawing in the hall and hold a critique: a. Which is the best contour study? b. Which has the most detail? c. Discuss whether you improved with practice or your first drawing was best. Why could this be? d. What did you learn from your teacher about drawing? e. What are you struggling with in drawing? 2. View the inspiration behind the project; take notes on the rubric, assignment, ideas! Peter Max Abstract Figures: http://www.incredibleart.org/lessons/high/Ken-figure.htm Peter Max posters Discuss empty space using shape templates, and covering mistakes in the negative space.
