Saturday 2nd September

Arrival at the Hotel Aalborg

Address: Osterbro 27, 9000 Aalborg. Suggested connection from the airport is by taxi located outside the front entrance. Journey time is 15 minutes and the average cost is 250 DKK. Hotel rooms are available from 2pm. A member of the youth network will assist with check in

We are booked onto a guided tour of ‘Old Aalborg’ that will depart from the Hotel front entrance at 5pm and will last for one hour. Here are the details of the tour as supplied by the guide.

To get to the district named after the Church of Our Lady we will pass through the old power station now converted to a house full of ‘cultural power’. We will then walk to the Bell Maker Street and on to ‘Our Lady’ that originally was an abbey church to a convent. Further on we continue to the old street that got its name after some royal stables to an old, now not existing castle. Here we can make a visit to the old Black Smiths’ court yard, which today is a family workshop for pottery and glass.

When continuing our walk we will catch a glimpse of The Cathedral, then passing the old Town Hall and at last the gem of the town the Renaissance building Jens Bangs House of Stones. And then ending at the restaurant Jensen’s Bøfhus.

Arrival at 6pm at Restaurant Jensen’s Bofhus for dinner at 6.30pm

Jensen’s is a famous Scandinavian restaurant with a wide ranging menu of burgers and steaks from around the world. There are also good vegetarian options and a delicious desert menu

Following the meal at Jensen’s we will take a stroll back to the hotel along Aalborg’s waterfront at the narrowest point of the River Limfjord

The waterfront has been regenerated into a tourist attraction itself and is a great place to enjoy a drink in the early evening. The journey from Jensen’s to the hotel will take approximately 20 minutes

Sunday 3rd September

Breakfast in the hotel is served from 7.30am on Sundays

Following breakfast there will be transport provided to take us to Aalborg Zoo which is a 15 minute journey. We will be leaving the hotel at 10am and arriving for a guided tour of the Zoo which will commence at 10.30am. Here is some information about the Zoo

Step into the wild at Aalborg Zoo. Sense the roar of the lion at feeding time, come close to an orangutan, watch polar bears frolic in the water, enjoy a hands-on experience at the petting zoo. Experience the African savannah with giraffes, zebras and antelopes.A new predator area opened in 2012 and you can look forward to meet the rare, Asian lion and experience the Sumatran tiger playing on land and in the water.
The Zoo is Denmark's biggest zoo and Aalborg's most popular attraction.

Transport will leave the Zoo to arrive back at the hotel for 3.30pm

The evening activity will be held at the Seaport Centre. A Modern bowling alley in the middle of Aalborg, close to the Limfjord Bridge

Bowling starts at 6pm with food at 7pm. Option to either walk to this activity or use the transport provided. Walking time is 30 minutes

Monday 4th September

Breakfast is served from 6.30 am. Departing the hotel at 9.30am we will make the short journey to take the ferry to the Island of Egholm, the small island in the middle of the Limfjord. The island has 605 hectors of original and beautiful nature. On the island there are a network of paths and small beaches where we shall enjoy a picnic. On return to the hotel we will all be meeting at the Abbey Road café for an afternoon drink to informally discuss plans for future activities for the Youth Network. The Abbey road café is just 2 minutes’ walk from the hotel
