IDA MAE BETHEA 12 BLUE FOR HER OUTSTANDING SERVICE IN 13 FURTHERANCE OF HER FAITH AND FOR HER 14 COMMITMENT TO HER FAMILY AND COMMUNITY AS 15 SHE CELEBRATES HER EIGHTY-SEVENTH BIRTHDAY. 16 17 Whereas, born in Dillon on June 9, 1918, to Mr. Lawrence Bethea 18 and Mrs. Perlie Mae Bethea, Ida Mae Bethea Blue has lived, 19 worked, and worshipped in Dillon County all her life; and 20 21 Whereas, Mrs. Blue has enjoyed a loving, seventy-year marriage to 22 Dr. Daniel W. Blue and was blessed with seven devoted children: 23 the late Mrs. Norma Faye Blue Whitfield, Mr. Daniel W. Blue, Jr., 24 Mr. Victor L. Blue, the late Mr. James L. Blue, Rev. William 25 Franklin Blue, Mr. Ronald Fernando Blue, and Mr. Terry Blue; 26 and 27 28 Whereas, serving the Dillon community in numerous worthwhile 29 capacities, Mrs. Blue has been a substitute teacher, and a beauty 30 shop owner, and has worked in the Little Rock plant. In addition, 31 she has worked as a nurse’s assistant at St. Eugene Hospital 32 (McLeod Hospital) and continues to read poems to senior citizens 33 through the Dillon County Senior Citizens program; and 34 35 Whereas, a faithful member of New Bethel Presbyterian Church in 36 Newtown, she serves as a church Elder, a Sunday School teacher, 37 and in the Nursery Guild, and also dutifully served as a Sunday 38 School teacher at her prior church, St. Stephen United Methodist 39 Church; and 40 41 Whereas, truly embodying the phrase, “you’re only as old as you 42 feel,” community members can find Mrs. Blue walking around

1 [875] 1 1 downtown Dillon, working in her yard and garden, and cooking for 2 her family and friends; and 3 4 Whereas, family and friends will gather in celebration of Mrs. 5 Blue’s eighty-seventh birthday on June 12, 2005, at her church in 6 Dillon, and it is with great pleasure and admiration that the 7 members of the Senate recognize such an exceptional daughter of 8 South Carolina as Ida Mae Bethea Blue. Now, therefore, 9 10 Be it resolved by the Senate: 11 12 That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, 13 honor and recognize Mrs. Ida Mae Bethea Blue for her outstanding 14 service in furtherance of her faith and for her commitment to her 15 family and community as she celebrates her eighty-seventh 16 birthday. 17 18 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to 19 Mrs. Ida Mae Bethea Blue. 20 ----XX---- 21
