2.12 How does IQAC Contribute/Monitor/Evaluate the Teaching & Learning processes: Teaching and Evaluation are done as per the Academic Calendar prepared by the IQAC. IQAC give a platform for active discussions and planning of different academic and non academic programmes. It provides financial assistance for conducting invited talks by the departments and for purchasing stationary items for departments. All departments are insisted to send a copy of mark lists and other documents to IQAC mail box in time. College web site is maintained by the IQAC and it is updated by each department. All the events are documented in the IQAC. Active student feedback system is running in our college and it is organized by the IQAC coordinator.

3.1 Initiatives of the IQAC in Sensitizing/Promoting Research Climate in the institution

3.26 Major Activities during the year in the sphere of extension activities and Institutional Social

Responsibility

1. SahapadhikkoruVeedu, “A Home for the class mate”-An initiative, undertaken by the National Service Scheme unit of Sree Narayana College to provide a house for a needy student was fulfilled in this year. This venture was ably supported by the students, teachers and well-wishers of the college. K.S Anjali, IInd year B. ScPhysics was blessed by this programme. The Governor handed over the key to the student in this occasion.

2. Valappad E-Village Prcojet : The college joins hands with the National Initiatives on Digital Literacy to implement the project E- Valappad. The objective of this project is to educate local people of Valappad village about cashless transaction and to spread digital financial literacy in every shop / household etc. inthe village of Valappad. In the new era of less cash and digital modes of payment, there is a lot of hardships for public if they do not know how to transact without cash. It is planned to conduct an intense exercise with a dedicated task force comprising of the students and teachers of S N College Nattika the staff of Manappuram Finance Ltd., and with assistance of members of the Valappad Panchayat for educating the individuals in households of twenty wards to use the POS & other online payment means thereby creating a culture of comfort to transact without cash. Students of Commerse ,Economics Depts were conducted the survey. 3. Distribution of Hot Boxes : An awareness programme on Energy Conservation was conducted among the villagers and distributed Hot boxes to selected members in Nattika panchayath and panchayaths on the World Energy Conservation Day 4. Water conservation work shop: Our 20 NSS volunteers and NSS P.O A.S priyanka participated in the water conservation work shop conducted by Block panchayath on 24-07-2016. After the workshop they had taken steps to protect water resources and harvest rain water in nearby ponds. 5. Medical camp: Free medical camp conducted in college for all teachers, students and also to public in association with MACARE, Valapad on 29-07-2016. 6. Swatch Bharath Mission: Cleaned college premises and organised Anti Plastic Campaign among the villagers and declared the campus as Zero Waste Campus from 3- 08-2016 to 10-08-2016. 7. Onam celebration : Onam Celebrated with Swathanam special school inmates. All students and staff of Swathanam special school were invited into our campus . Our NSS volunteers and students of swathanam performed cultural programmes on 3-sep-2016 8. Children’s Day: NSS Volunteers organized Children’s Day Celebration at AKG Colony, Anganvadi No:68 of Thalikulam panchayath on 14-11-2016 9. Blood Donation Camp in association with IMA: Conducted a Blood Donation Camp in association with IMA and students donated blood on 14-12-2016

10. Special Camp : NSS Special Camp Programme‘Saparya 2016’was organized outside the college campus at HSS Peringottukara from 24th Dec to 30th Dec .It was Inaugurated by GeethaGopi MLA.NSS volunteers arranged series of awareness programmes,cleaning programmes,water conservation programmes in the village.Leading personalities from different fields visited the camp and motivated the volunteers and thus imbibed values and moral principles. 11. Water Harvesting: NSS Volunteers Helped Kudumbasree Workers In Water Harvesting Project, In Our College Pond in Front Of The College on 25-03-17 12. Setting Vegetable garden inand outside( HSS School.Peringottukara) the campus. 13. Curry leaves Plant distributed to the public. 14. Collected fund for Dialysis centre , peringottukara, Trichur. 15. Awareness Programme on Dialysis, Paliative Care etc… 16. Survey Conducted in Thanyam panchayath about Babies with the help of KILA. 17. Haritha keralam project of Kerala state also implemented in our campus, Inaugurated by Geetha Gopi MLA 18. Onam Kit Distibution For Poor Civilians On 11th September 2016 our NCC unit made a special Onam program. The NCC unit distributed for Onam kit’s for poor people in our college surroundings. It was really appreciated by our principal. For that our NCC cadets came at 8:30 am that morning and cadets bought stationaries for the poor. After collecting all the required items, cadets pack them and distributed the Onam kit to the poor at 9 ‘o’ clock. It was a memorable and enthusiastic experience for the cadets

19. Swatch Bharath : On 24th September and 2ndoctober 2016 our NCC cadets conducted the swatch Baharat program. All the cadets came to college at 8:30 am and cleaned our college campus and surroundings. Every cadet played their role in cleaning. Our principal Dr.Anitha Shankar congratulated all the NCC cadets for their voluntarism.

20. Eye Checkup Camp : On 1ST October 2016 NCC unit of our college conducted an eye checkup camp associated with Ahalia eye foundation hospital Thrissur. Day before that day our cadets visited the neighborhood and invited the civilians for this camp. Our cadets give a lecture about the importance of eye checkup and eye donation to the civilians. All the civilians cooperated with us. Nearly 150 people participated in the camp

21. World Yoga Day : We celebrated world yoga day on 21st june 2016 total 18 cadets including 9 SW and 9SD participated in the programme which was conducted at SRGVMHSS PURANATTUKARA. The other cadets conduct yoga day at our college in the presence of our ANO Lt: K.S LETHA and seniors 22. Radio talk : Dr.Chitra.G, Assistant professor, Dept. of Botany aired a Talklet on “veettiloru poonthottam” in All India Radio, Thrissur. 23. Dept.of Chemistry, Conducted a workshop in association with Sasthra Sahitya Parishad on water analysis for plus two teachers of the nearby schools.

24.Dr. Anabha E.R, Assistant Professor, Chemistry conducted a salinity survey

25.IV semester PG students of the Economics Dept. conducted a socio economic survey on “MGNREGA “ among the people engaged in “Thozhilurappu”in ward VIII in Nattika Grama Panchayath

26. Teachers and Students Visited to Balikasadanam-an orphanage for girls and gave financial Assistance

27. PG Students of Maths Dept. took classes to higher secondary school students of nearby schools.

28. A week long cleaning programme from 2-10-2016 was conducted by Biodiversity club within the college to mark Gandhi Jayanthi and the National Cleanliness week, Plastic and

polythene wastes were collected separately and handed over to the members of panchayat – Kudumbasree for safe waste disposal.

29. Career Guidance and Placement Cell took the initiative to collect the detailed bio data from the old students who are interested to apply for the eligible jobs and Malappuram Finance Limited provided job offer for 50 graduates.

30.Harvesting and Sales of Banana and Tapioca:

Farm Club harvested the organic plantain and tapioca cultivated by them and organized a sale for public at low cost. A total of Rs.2300/- (Two thousand three hundred only) were collected through the sale..

31. Three days exhibition :

Sree Narayana study Centre conduted a three days exhibition from 20th October 2016 on “Sree Narayana Vignaneeyam” in the college based on the life of the great saint and visionary Sree Narayana Guru. The exhibition was opened for all. Students of nearby institutions and local public were invited to watch the exhibition. Pictures and Books of Sree Naryana Guru were exhibited in this three days exhibition. The exhibition was inaugurated by Dr. M. R. Subhashini, President,Thalikulam Block Panchayath

32. Renovation of pond :

As a part of Water Conservation Programme,Volunteers of NSS, NCC, Natureclub renovated the pond “Puthukulam “ outside campus 0n 05- 06-17

1. Orientation class were organized at the beginning of the Academic year. At the beginning of the year, the Guidance and Counselling Centre conducts an Orientation Programme for all the degree students to empower them by promoting positive attitude and to identify their individual strength and challenges. The centre also conducts an orientation programme for all the freshers and their parents to familiarize them with the college, its

5.2 Efforts made by the institution for tracking the progression

1. The IQAC has streamlined efforts to keep track of the progression of students through an internal student profile system that the class teachers maintain for each student, which includes personal details, health profile, academic progress, extracurricular activities, and placement particulars. The profiles are updated for each semester in tutorial system and handed over to the class teacher of the following year and serve as a source to track

student progression and academic growth. 2. Two class PTA meetings in addition to the general PTA meeting in every academic year are conducted to discuss the progress of students with the parents. 3. Performance of wards in internal exams, their attendance, achievements and participations in co- curricular activities are monitored by tutors and inform the parents. 4. Students on completion of their courses have been asked to be in touch with the college through e – mode facilities of the college. 5.6 Details of student counselling and career guidance

Teachers in charge during tutorials identify students in need of counseling and arranged counseling sessions for them. Services of a teacher with experience on counseling students are made available in the college and she suggests the students who are in need of further counseling to the outside units with the support of the parents. She gave personal counseling and assistance to the students to improve their academic performance and addressed their personal emotional needs too. • A seminar on ‘An Ideal Leader’ and ‘How to face the competitive exams’ by the resource person Dr. Alexander Jacob, IPS was organized by IQAC. • Students in Economics, Commerce departments participated in V.C. • Career Guidance & Placement Cell, with 157 students participated in the Eduexpo 2017 and Talent Hunt 2017 headed by Dr.Arun Kumar and the interact ahead of the success game with actor Siddique organised by Microtec Events on 9-01-2017 at Lulu Convention Centre, Thrissur. • Career Guidance and Placement Cell also organised an orientation class on ‘Logistics’ on 15th March 2017 for the final year degree students by International Academy of Logistics Management to familiarise the students about the courses and opportunities in the field of Logistics. • At the beginning of the year, the Guidance and Counselling Club conducted an Orientation Programme handled by Dr.Jigi Varghese for all the degree students to empower them by promoting positive attitude and to identify their individual strength and challenges. The Women’s Cell aims to sensitize the girls to the various social issues around them and to challenge them to work towards social responsibilities concerning women. ANNEXURE I Best Practices II 1. Title of the Practice: Knowledge Exchange Programme (KEP) 2. Goal: “Knowledge sans Boundaries” is the Motto of KEP. This is an institutional innovative initiative which aims at the dissemination of ‘exclusive’ knowledge of a discipline to other disciplines. The programme is conducted with a view to create awareness among students, of the developments, discoveries and inventions in a particular subject in a purely scholarly interactive way. It also provides opportunities for advanced learners to exhibit their prowess in the area under discussion. Further, students are given a platform to improve their presentation and interaction skills. 3. The Context: Knowledge is created and revealed in all disciplines across the world. It is inevitable that a conscientious student should be aware of new happenings and initiatives in all branches of learning. Too much specialization has caused barriers to knowledge of great relevance across disciplines. Students have become confined in their disciplines of specialization. They turn a cold shoulder to other fields of knowledge, which in turn makes them unresponsive to what happens beyond their area of study. Students of science disciplines never take interest in the developments in social sciences, and vice versa. Unfortunately this widens the gap between the two cultures (Science and Humanities), as C. P. Snow has enunciated in his Rede lecture. If knowledge of public interest is imparted and discussed in an open forum by students who specialize in that particular area, especially for those who are not within the fold of that discipline, it will be immensely beneficial. KEPs are always presented after the regular class hours. 4. The Practice: A development/discovery/invention in the area of a particular discipline, which may find a place in the timeline of milestones or important happenings of that particular field of knowledge, is identified as the topic for KEP. The topic, date and venue of the KEP are announced and published in the notice board beforehand. A group of students under the guidance of a teacher prepare the presentation. Care is taken to make the presentation scholarly and at the same time palatable to all students. The

Time for topic delivery is limited to half an hour in order to provide more time for interactions. When the central government declared Demonetisation, the students of the Department of Economics presented a KEP for the students of Science Disciplines. It was a vibrant programme in which teachers of other disciplines and non-teaching staff also participated. The presentation was an in-depth analysis of the pros and cons of Demonetisation, its impact on Indian economy, comparison with similar experiments in economy etc. This helped gain a true knowledge on the topic, especially at a time when lots of misconceptions were being spread by the social media and channel discussions. 5. Evidence of Success: All the KEPs have been of great interest to the students. Often they come forward to suggest topics on which they needed to be enlightened. Some of the KEPs conducted as per the suggestions of the students are ‘Budget 2016’ by the Dept. of Commerce and ‘Skill India’ by the Dept. of Economics. Students who made the presentation were highly enthusiastic to prove their mettle in front of their peers. They enjoyed the accolades they received. The success of KEPs lies in their immediate relevance and public interest. Students highly appreciate them as they are not in the frame work of rigid pedagogical seminars or invited lectures. KEPs are flexible and accommodate topics and beneficiaries across disciplines. KEPs are student centred and make use of modern gadgets for presentation. Students make animated videos and video calls for on- the-spot responses from experts. KEPs bring the campus together as students, teachers and non-teaching staff participate in them. Moreover, students get opportunity to develop their presentation skills. Active Student participation in the interactions is also commendable. 6. Problems Encountered and Resources Required: The only problem identified in the practice is the constraints of time between the identification of the topic and presentation of the same. There will not be much time for preparation. The immediacy of the topics demands hectic preparation on the part of the students. As the topics presented under KEP are of immediate relevance, they are to be served hot from the oven before they become cold and stale.

Only human resource and infrastructure are needed to implement and institutionalise the practice. 7. Notes KEP is highly accommodative as a Best Practice as it requires no financial assistance. 1.Title of the Practice: Sree Narayana Study Centre

2. Goal: Education is Attainment of Knowledge based on moral values. Sree Narayana Study Centre works on this principle. It was Sree Narayana Guru’s vision on education as the most potent instrument of socio-economic progress, political development, and moral and intellectual awakening that led to the founding of this institution. The goal of Sree Narayana Study Centre is to impart value education to the students along with their syllabi-oriented education. 3. The Context: Knowledge is power. But without moral values knowledge becomes just information. Imbibing the spirit of the vedic statement sa vidya ya vimuchyate, Guru raised the motto “Seek Freedom and Enlightenment through Education”. It enshrines academic excellence, development of life skills, and character formation based on scientific temper and human values. The Sree Narayana Study Centre aims at achieving the lofty ideals of Sree Narayana Guru who professed the wellbeing of all through education, without ant discrimination on the basis if caste, creed, or religion. 4. Problems Encountered and Resources Required: The only problem identified in the practice is financial. In order to arrange lectures by veterans in the field who have come to the institution from faraway places is expensive. Apart from this, only human resource and infrastructure are needed to implement and institutionalise the practice. 7. Notes This practice is the need of the hour as it gives the students a sense of responsibility. There is no point in bringing out thousands of graduates and postgraduates without any moral and humanitarian values.
