- Tests and quizzes will be given based on the material covered in class. The value of the tests and quizzes will vary. Story/novel questions will be collected and graded as a quiz. Tests and quizzes are expected to be completed during the class period. It will be my discretion to allow a student to complete a test or quiz during another class period.

- Assignments will be given for practice, preparation, extension, and creativity.

- Class Participation, behavior, and attendance are considered an important part of the grading system and students will be graded on participation. Participation includes behavior and coming to class prepared.

- Homework is an important part of understanding material. As such, students will lose the points from their overall homework grade when it is not submitted. Late homework will be accepted at the end of the day during 8th Period but students will receive partial credit. Late homework may also be submitted the next day for partial credit. It is the student’s responsibility to hand in late homework. It is the student’s responsibility to hand in homework when he/she has been absent.

Failure to submit any assignments during the student's class period will result in a lower grade. Assignments are explained to the student and are expected to be completed on the due date. Assignments and tests/quizzes are posted on my Homework Hotline and my website on a regular basis. A student who is absent has the responsibility to check the Homework Hotline or website. Missed work must be completed on the day following the student's absence. The Homework Hotline and teacher webpage informs the students of tests/quizzes and there is no reason for lack of preparation. In the event that the student will be absent three days or longer, I retain the option of allowing students an additional day or two for preparation. This is an option, not the right of the student. This will be decided by me on a case by case basis.

Cheating

Any student caught cheating on any assignment (homework, projects, comprehension questions, tests/quizzes) will receive a zero grade for the assignment. Cheating includes, but is not limited to, copying answers from the internet or another student. In the case that a student allows another student to copy an assignment, both students will receive a zero grade. If caught cheating a second time, the student will receive a written referral resulting in possible ISS or OSS, in accordance with the district Discipline Policy listed in the Student Handbook.

Grading System

The grading system in this class follows the system adopted by Wyoming Area School Board and is based on a points system.
