Course Description:

World History is a chronological survey from prehistory to the present. Students trace the social, geographical, economic and political developments and influences that have shaped the modern world.

Rationale:

World History is designed to give students an appreciation and understanding for the social geographical, political, and economic factors that continue to affect them in today’s society.

Everyday Use items:

·  Bring classroom binder or folder everyday unless the teacher gives other directions.

·  Textbooks are to be taken care of and BROUGHT to every class.

·  Blue or black pen or pencil (please no green ink pens or hard to read colors)

·  DOING SO WILL RESULT IN A 30% REDUCTION OF POINTS

·  Notebook or loose leaf paper (YOU WILL NEED A NOTEBOOK TO KEEP IN THE CLASSROOM FOR JOURNAL WRITING ASSIGNMENTS)

How to be a successful student:

·  Come to school regularly

·  Stay on task

·  Follow directions

·  Complete assignments

·  ASK FOR HELP EARLY!!! You can come see me before or after school or set up a time.

GRADING: Refer to the Student Handbook for Grading Scale. It will be posted in class.

Grade distribution:
1st and 2nd Quarter (Homework, Group work, assignments, quizzes, tests) / 40%
3rd and 4th Quarter (Homework, Group work, assignments, quizzes, tests) / 40%
2 Finals (Comprehensive) / 20%
=Final Grade

Note: Because this is a CP class there will be a comprehensive final and term papers and/or projects.

Classroom Expectations:

1.  FOLLOW THE RULES AND PROCEDURES OF THE CLASS THAT HAVE BEEN PROVIDED AND ARE POSTED

2.  Be seated after entering the classroom with textbook, any assignments that are due, paper, and writing utensil and quietly get started on the “Bell Work” if provided.

3.  LISTEN and pay attention during instruction, directions, and class discussion.

4.  PARTICIPATE in class. Learning is not a spectator sport. You are the class!!!

Computer Policy:

The computers are NOT to be touched unless specifically given permission. When on the computers, you are to use them for ONLY the assignment given to you in MY class!!!!!! Failure to do so will result in your privileges being taken. This includes the use of gaggle or powerschool. Do not ask to use the computer for another class or to check your grades. If an incident like such happens again, you will not be allowed on the computers for the rest of the semester. For any other questions regarding technology usage, refer to your student handbook for district policy.

Assignment Expectations:

Please put the following on the top right hand corner of all papers:

1.  Full name (first and last) (No Name = No GRADE!!!!)

2.  Class and hour

3.  Page number of the assignment if necessary

4.  Date

Homework Policy:

§  Homework is considered late if not turned in by the beginning of the class period the assignment is due.

§  Late homework will be accepted for 80% credit and will be accepted for 80% credit up until a week after the assignment is due. Homework later than a week will not be accepted (i.e. IT BECOMES A ZERO). This policy applies to all work unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Absent Work: You are responsible for getting missed assignments from me. You are responsible for getting any notes that you may have missed from your classmates. Refer to district regulations to determine the amount of time you have to complete the assignment.

Tardies and absences:

§  Tardies and absences will be recorded.

§  Those who arrive tardy are to first report to the office before being allowed back into the classroom.

§  Upon remittance, tardy students are to sit down quietly and immediately get to work.

§  Encouragement and praise

§  Special projects

§  Special events and days

§  Positive progress reports sent home to parents

§  Activity periods

§  Privileges of doing other activities such as using the computer lab and library for projects

Special Note: Grades are not given they are earned! Never expect to do the minimum and get an A. Each and every one of you has wonderful potential. We will be working together towards achieving that potential.
