Romans in the Borough of Swindon Day School

In 2013 the Association for Roman Archaeology, in association with Wiltshire Victoria County History, ran a very successful Roman Wiltshire Day School, this attracted over 200 delegates and raised much needed funds for the continuation of both the research and publication of the Victoria County History series for Wiltshire. After many requests from ARA members and the Friends of Victoria County History Wiltshire for a similar event the ARA Board are again sponsoring the above event in Swindon. The Day School will cover recent surveys and excavations in the Borough of Swindon ranging from the Thames gravels, Highworth, Purton and Swindon. The Conference will be opened by

Mrs Sarah Rose Troughton HM Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire.

Approach has been made to both Wessex Archaeology and Cotswold Archaeology for speakers on recent excavations in the Borough of Swindon.

The event will be held in the Conference Centre of the Marriott Hotel and the ticket cost of £30 will include tea and coffee and a hot buffet meal. There will also be organisations with stands, second hand and new book sales. It is also hoped that subject to Historic England's approval, Dr Pete Wilson will launch the publication of excavations at Groundwell Ridge at the Day School. Conference will close no later than 5.00 pm.
