The Secretaria de Obras de la Esposa del Presidente, SOSEP, looks forward to the possibility of working with SADASA and the U.S. consulting firm, IPC LLC to introduce Community Bakeries (Panaderias Comunitarias) with the support of FERMA as a supplier of bakery equipment and USAID/DIV to fund community bakery models of this approach in the altiplano (highlands) and other areas of Guatemala.

We believe this initiative would be in keeping with USAID’s priorities of Feed the Future (FTF) and the government of Guatemala’s “Zero Hambre” (Zero Hunger) programs to fight against extreme poverty in the rural areas of Guatemala.

As you are aware SESOP among its different programs has a loan program for the poor and very poor women in the altiplanoand other areas of Guatemala.

We would welcome IPC’s expertise in small enterprises, SADASA, USAID/DIV and private investors to collaborate with SOSEP to establish a joint venture model company with both private investors to target poor women as shareholders. SOSEP will also work closely with Banrural (largest private bank in Gutemala) to channel monies through the bank for loans to the identified women to purchase their shares in the model companies This new model could lead to many SMEsusing the same strategy to produce nutritious bread goods for sale to the poor and poorest of the poor. SOSEP has been told that apart from selling bread products to the community at large, these highly nutritious bread products in coordination with the Ministry of Education could be given to school children..

We look forward to collaborating with this public- private sector alliance in Guatemala

if IPC LLC is able to obtain funding from USAID/DIV.
