Introduction

Wangu primary School is located in Dandora area, Nairobi County and is within the coverage of Hand in Hand EA Kasarani Branch.

Wangu Primary entrepreneurship club started back in June 2014 owing to an initiative to capacity build youths instigated by Hand in Hand EA.

The club started with an initial group of 60 pupils of which 43 graduated and were given certificates. Owing to the success of the Club a 2ndlot which has also graduated was recruited in the month of February 2015. Hand in Hand EA is now currently training a third lot of 62 pupils which was recruited in the month of February 2016.

Implementation

The club members are trained by Hand in Hand EA every Wednesday at 3.30-4.30pm.The training coverage majors on savings(importance and benefits) ,entrepreneurial skills, life skills( time management and teamwork)and leadership skills.

From regular evaluations conducted by the facilitators, it has come out clearly that the entrepreneurship training, which is the core training has broadened the pupil’s minds to think like established entrepreneurs and have already started income generating projects.

The projects include, detergent making, bar soap making, scones (mandazi) baking, washing detergent making and also cake baking. The saving training has also come in handy as the Pupils can now save and plan for the income from the activities.

The money generated from the clubs income is used to pay fees for the club members and cater for the school feeding programme.

A plus for the training has been on the impact on the lives of the parents, as the pupils have taught their parents on the skills learnt in the entrepreneurship club.

The members of the entrepreneurship club were part of the Hand in Hand EA annual entrepreneurship contest where a member in the ongoing lot emerged the best national wide for having the most unique and creative business idea.
