Planning prelims

Discuss plan for prelims with advisor: decide on three committee members, prelim topic, and timeframe. / No later than middle of fourth semester
Complete the Preliminary Examination Committee form that indicates preliminary exam committee members & exam date and submit it to the program administrator. The Graduate School will then issue a preliminary exams warrant, to be signed after exams are passed. / At least four weeks in advance of exams.
Submit preliminary exams warrant with signatures of committee members to program administrator, who submits to Graduate School. / After successfully passing.

Invite faculty to be members of dissertation defense committee.
Working with advisor and committee members, set date for Final Oral Exam (dissertation defense).
Send required information to program administrator to request Final Oral Exam warrant (see Forms page on website). / At least four weeks before defense date.
Prepare dissertation for deposit, as agreed upon during Final Oral Exam. / Between defense and deposit.
