Welcome

TheChairman, Mr Jonathan McCafferty, welcomed all members to the 2011 Annual Meeting. He especially welcomed new members and members from overseas.

Apologies

Apologies for absence were received from Mrs Shirley Purves, Ms Dena Howlett, Mr Guy Marshall and Mr M.C.Black.

Recent sad news

Mr McCafferty reported on the very sad loss of two major figures in the Sherlockian world, Mr Edward Hardwicke and Mr Jeremy Paul. Both gentlemen had made great contributions and would be sorely missed.

Minutes of the 2010 AGM -These were read and agreed.

Society Accounts

The treasurer, Mr Calvert Markham, presented the Annual Accounts which were unanimously adopted. Members approved the appointment of Brooks Carling as auditors for the coming year. Mr Markham was thanked for his work.

2012 Annual Subscription

Mr Markham advised the meeting that there was no need to increase membership subscriptions for 2011. Members agreed and thanked Mr Markham for all his work on behalf of the Society.

The Council and Officers

Miss Helen Dorey and Mrs Elaine McCafferty were standing down from the Council having reached the end of their three year terms. Mr McCafferty thanked both warmly for their tremendous service to the Society. Mr Ashley Mayo and Mr Robert Ellis were elected to the Council for three year terms.

Society Events

Mr McCafferty praised the Society’s Cricket XI on its stunning victory against The Gold Bats of the P.G.Wodehouse Society. Our star batsman, Mr George Gross, had scored the first century in the history of this fixture.

Future events, Mr McCafferty noted, will include a visit to Trinity College, Oxford, to celebrate the centenary of the birth of Monsignor Ronald Knox with a weekend visit to his Oxford college, Trinity. In September 2012 the Society will make another Pilgrimage to Switzerland.

There being no other business the meeting ended at 8.22pm.
