Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer with The Royal Women’s Hospital (the Women’s). Please read and consider our requirements and then complete the expression of interest at the end of this document and send to the Volunteer Coordinator at

The volunteer program at the Women’s is an extension of the hospital’s commitment to the health and well-being of women and babies by contributing to the services we provide and enriching the quality of hospital life. Volunteers are an integral and valued part of the innovative, compassionate and caring hospital community and we are seeking individuals who can provide a long-term commitment to supporting its vital day-to-day functioning.

Our requirements

·  Must be over the age of 18

·  Must be able to commit to a minimum of one regular (1) shift or four (4 hours) per week

·  Must be able to commit to volunteering for a minimum of at least twelve (12) months

·  Must not have a criminal history of violence, drug offences, sex offences or crimes against children and must agree to undertake Police, Working with Children Check and reference checks

·  Need to show enthusiasm; a willing, friendly attitude and be aware of and act in accordance with the Women’s policies and guidelines

·  Need to be flexible and adaptable. The Volunteer Coordinator will discuss the best place for successful applications to assist, based on current vacancies, volunteer’s time available, skills and interests. While volunteers undertake a variety of roles throughout the hospital, they all share the primary goal of supporting our patients, families and staff.

·  No financial payment is provided however the Women’s will provide free car parking and, when applicable, coffee and luncheon vouchers

Volunteering at the Women’s will suit applicants whose main incentive is to contribute to the life and positive experience of patients, families and staff at the hospital . There is no guarantee that volunteering at the Women’s will assist in obtaining a career at the hospital and we would encourage students seeking work experience or placements or to improve their career prospects to contact the hospital’s human resources department.

·  Volunteer Desk – includes guiding / escorting patients or visitors around the hospital, undertaking clerical support tasks

·  Administrative assistance in one or more of our hospital departments, conducting consumer surveys

·  Hospital Trolley Program – selling newspapers and magazines around the hospital (morning shift)

·  Music Program – do you play an instrument you’d like to share around the hospital?

·  Auxiliary stall – assisting in selling knitted items or, making items for sale on the stall

·  Baby Bundle Program – making/donating items to include in our baby bundles

·  Comfort Shawl Program – making shawls, knee rugs or blankets for our oncology patients

·  Event Support – assisting with events and special projects
