Susie Campbell’s daughter is selling Girl Scout Cookies.
Dianne Dewey had a birthday yesterday, November 17th and Gary Myers’ birthday was today… he was afraid to come.
Next week we will have a special guest at our meeting. Jason & Vicki Baldridge will be joining us with their new daughter, Abigail. If you fail to act like the baby is a boy and call him Junior you will be fined one dollar.
Ed Roberts announced those that had signed up for Salvation Army bell ringing at the mall. Bell ringing on November 21st from 9-9 at only one door this year. Ed also shared with the club that the DSG money will be spent on improvements at the Calvin Center.
Jim Fitzgerald gave an update on Rotary Foundation giving and reminded everyone of the quarterly billing.
Hod sold squares of the Foundation Board and we found it a lot less confusing then when Ken Hamlin explained it.
Ken Everett received a special award on behalf of the club from Amy for the level of Annual Support that Eastside does on behalf of the Foundation.
Prospective Members:
Shannon Moore has been proposed by Bob Butler.
The Board of Directors has given tentative approval subject
to publishing this party’s name in the club bulletin for two weeks. If you have any objection to this party becoming a member of East Side Rotary please let your objections be known, in writing, to the President immediately.
Vice President:
Susie updated everyone on the Harvest House service project. The group that worked last night had a great experience and the turnout expected Friday morning could be double.
Vocational:
Ryan provided information on the Christmas Party scheduled for Dec. 12th at Barb Burns’ home. A sign up sheet was passed around for hor d’oeuvres, desserts or drinks…the plan is heavy hor d’oeuvres and a prize for the best one served.
Program:
Today’s program was Kathy Welsch and her experiences and love for the game of golf. She shared that she was introduced to the game when she was nine years old and encouraged by a 60 year old friend on its importance. In 1974 she tracked stats and got involved by watching other players and improving her score to the point where she received her LPGA Tour Card. The same year she played in her first US Open with an amazing group of other professionals…she did not tell us if she won or not. She went on to head the LPGA Girls Division in Birmingham and shared with other girls the valuable lessons she had learned from the game. She feels the opportunities have definitely changed for today’s golfer with degrees in areas that open the field wide up. It is obvious that golf has had a huge impact on her life and her love of the game is apparent when she shares her experiences.
