The Scholarship Programmes Overview
Four different scholarship programmes are designed for Indian students who wish to go to France for studies or training. Through these programmes, Indian students may seek financial assistance:
1)for short term study or internship in recognized French Institutions or Universities;
2)for long term study to complete a Bachelor's or Master's degree course and obtain a degree from a French Institution of higher education.
For courses taught in French, a good level of French is a mandatory requirement. Please note that some French Institutions or Universities prescribe a certified level.
For courses taught in English, a good command of French is not a mandatory requirement for the award of these scholarships.
Students who would like to learn French language before their departure to France and to attend cultural programmes can contact any of the 17 Alliances Françaises centres in India.
1st - Training or Internship programme – Programme de bourses de formation et stage
Short term scholarships provide an opportunity to Indian students who are enrolled for a bachelor’s or a master’s degree in Indian Institutions / Universities of Engineering to pursue training or internship in French institutions for three a month period (May to July).
2nd - Exchange programme – "Programme de bourses d'échange"
Short term scholarships (3 to 6 months) are awarded to students enrolled for bachelor or master degree in Indian Institutions / Universities which have signed a bilateral exchange agreement with French Institutions of Higher Education.
3rd - Bachelor and Master programme - "Programme de bourses de Licence et Master"
Long term (1-2 years) scholarships are awarded to Indian students with an outstanding academic profile to study at Bachelor’s/Master’s degree level in French institutions of higher Education.
In 2011 , priority will be given to the following disciplines:
Architecture: All fields of architecture studies
Biotechnology: Health, plant, agriculture, food processing, pharmaceutical sciences etc...
Smart grid engineering: Electricity network, digital technology, net metering, energy independence, emergency resilience…
Civil Nuclear: Nuclear technology, nuclear physics, nuclear safety, radiation protection…
European Studies: All fields
Mathematics: All fields of fundamental and applied mathematics
Nanotechnology: Nanosciences applied to any field or domain.
Water Sciences: Agriculture, climate change, conservation, technology & engineering, purification, supply of drinkable water, treatment & health, etc.
However, 1/3 part of the total scholarships will be ear marked to all others disciplines and topics
4th - Research programme – "Programme de bourses de recherche"
Research scholarships are awarded to highly qualified PhD candidates (enrolled in Indian university) for conducting research projects in France (during 3 to 6 months). The aim of this program is to provide young researchers the opportunity to carry out part of their research work at French laboratories or universities and to acquaint them with research advances activities in France.

Eligibility Criteria
1st - Training or Internship programme - Programme de bourses de formation et stage
Applicant must:
  • Be no older than 30 years
  • Be currently enrolled in an Under graduate / Master programme in India or have just completed the same
  • Produce a Bona fide certificate from the Institution / University in India where he/she is currently working/studying or has just completed the course
  • Produce a statement of purpose, detailed Curriculum Vitae and attested pass certificates and ongoing semesters' mark/grade sheet by the head of the institution/university
  • Produce an invitation letter from host institution/university in France, stating that he/she has been accepted to for a short term training/internship. If this letter is not available at the time of applying, the candidate must provide the e-mail/hard-copy correspondence with the said Institution/University in France. Important: The confirmed invitation/acceptance letter must be produced latest by 31st March latest.

2nd - Exchange Programme: Programme de bourses d'échange
  • Applicant must:
  • Be admitted to an exchange programme organized officially under the aegis of an MoU signed between the Institution in India where he/she is currently studying and a French Institution of Higher education
  • Be no older than 30 years
  • Be currently enrolled in an Under graduate / Master programme in India or have just completed the same
  • Produce a statement of purpose, detailed Curriculum Vitae and attested pass certificates and ongoing semesters' mark/grade sheet by the head of the institution/university
  • Produce a NOC from the Institute or University in India where he/she is working/studying currently
  • Produce letter on official letter head of the Institution / University in India where he/she is currently working/studying AND the French Institution stating that he/she is a part of the said exchange programme. in the process of getting invitation/acceptance letter from an higher educational institution in France at the time filling the online application

3rd - Bachelor or Master programme - Programme de bourses de Licence et Master
  • Applicants applying for Bachelor’s level programmes:
  • Be no older than 22 years
  • Have passed "Grade 12" with a minimum aggregate of 60%
  • Be currently enrolled in an Under graduate programme
  • Produce a statement of purpose, detailed Curriculum Vitae and attested pass certificates and marks/grade sheet (Grades 11 and 12) by the head of the institution/university Important: The confirmed admission letter must be produced latest by 10th June latest.
  • Produce detailed Curriculum Vitae, attested pass certificates and mark/grade sheets
  • Produce at least a correspondence to show that he/she is in the process of getting admission from an higher educational institution in France at the time filling the online application. The confirmed admission letter must be produced latest by 10th June.
  • Applicants applying for Master’s level programmes
  • Be no older than 30 years
  • Be currently enrolled in an Under graduate or have just completed the same
  • Produce a statement of purpose, detailed Curriculum Vitae and attested pass certificates and marks/grade sheet (Grade 12 onwards) by the head of the institution/university.
  • Produce an acceptance/admission letter from the Institution/University in France. If this letter is not available at the time of applying, the candidate must provide email/hard-copy correspondence with the said Institution/University in France. Important: The confirmed admission letter must be produced by 10th June latest.

4th - Research programme - Programme de bourses de recherche
  • Applicant must:
  • Be no older than 35 years.
  • Have registered for PhD in a recognized Indian university / institute;
  • Have published at least ONE peer-reviewed research article;
  • Have an invitation letter / “convention d’accueil” from a French Institution/Laboratory in predetermined format.

Terms of Award
Scholarship benefits could include ONE following grants at the discretion of the scholarship Committee :
monthly stipend of 615 euros (maximum)
overseas medical insurance coverage
round trip pre-paid air ticket
tuition fees waiver
APPLICATION GUIDELINES FOR THE 1st, 2nd and 3rd SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMMES
The application form must be completed online. Fields marked with star sign * are mandatory.
Schedule: Usually there is a period of one or two months gap between the last date of the application and the selection committee's decision.
An initial assessment of profiles received online will be conducted and preselected candidates will be required to send hard copies of the following:
1)Print out of the online application submitted
2)Photograph (3 x 3.5 Cms)
3)Curriculum Vitae (max. 3 pages)
4) Admission/invitation/acceptance letter of French Institution of Higher Educational
5) Statement of purpose detailing study project (Max. One page)
6) Academic records: Grade 11 and 12 for those applying for Bachelor’s level programmes and Grade 12 onwards for those applying for Short-term internship/training, Exchange programmes, Master’s / Research programmes (to be attested by a gazetted officer or the head of the institution where applicant has studied/is studying).
7) French language certificate, if any (from Alliance Française in India/recognised universities)
8) NOC from the institution for the students going for internship/exchange program
