To register for this trip use the BUFF on line registration at (http://www.buckeyeflyfishers.com/tripreg/tripmenu.asp) I need your name, Phone No. and/or cell, and e-mail address. Deadline to register is June 25, 2015.

Trip Description / Whitewater River, IN Day Trip We’ll be floating (bring your own kayak or rent at the livery) and fishing on the Whitewater River in Indiana. This is the river that the Brookville Tailwater feeds into, and we will start our float just upstream of the confluence of the tailwater and the main Whitewater River. We will mainly be fishing for smallmouth bass, but other warm water species (saugeye, carp, rock bass, etc.) are also present and catchable in the river.
NOTE: DUE TO RECENT RAIN, THE WHITEWATER IS CURRENTLY RUNNING VERY HIGH. IF FLOW LEVELS ARE ABOVE 2000 CFS ON FRIDAY EVENING, THE WATER WILL BE TOO HIGH TO FISH ON SATURDAY MORNING. I WILL BE IN TOUCH VIA TELEPHONE AND EMAIL IN THE EVENT THAT THE TRIP IS CANCELED. BECAUSE JULY WILL BE A BUSY MONTH, THERE WILL BE NO RAIN DATE FOR THIS TRIP, ALTHOUGH THERE MAY BE ANOTHER TRIP SCHEDULED LATER THIS SUMMER. STREAM LEVELS CAN BE MONITORED HERE THROUGHOUT THE WEEK, FOR PLANNING PURPOSES:

We will make sure that any new fly fishermen or folks new to the area are paired up with someone that has experience with both fly fishing and the area. We encourage folks to travel and fish with at least one partner for safety.
A valid Indiana fishing license is required for this trip. The cost of kayak rental or transportation shall be the responsibility of each individual. Kayaks are available for rent (sit on top or sit in) from Morgan’s for $25, or your personal kayak can be transported by Morgan’s for $10.
Please indicate whether you will be renting a kayak (see above - and if you have a preference for sit-on or sit-in indicate that also) or providing your own when registering for this trip. I will have boats reserved for those needing them.
REGISTRATION IS LIMITED TO EIGHT (8) PERSONS.
Lodging / This is a day trip and lodging is not needed.
Directions
To Meeting Place: / We will meet at Morgan’s Canoe Livery in Brookville, IN:
Morgan's Outdoor Adventures
7040 Whitewater River Lane, Brookville, IN 47012

Directions: Get from your start point to the intersection of US 27 and Ohio 129 in Millville, OH (39°23'15.7"N 84°39'19.5"W, or 39.387685, -84.655413). Travel west on Ohio 129, cross the state line to Indiana at Scipio, OH. The road becomes Indiana Route 252. Continue west to Brookville, IN. At the first traffic light, turn left onto Main Street, Indiana Route 1, then right on Blue Creek Rd. (intersection with traffic light near IGA). Immediately after crossing the river, turn right on Whitewater River Ln. Parking is first come first serve. The total distance from Millville to the livery is 20.9 miles and takes about 29 minutes.

Schedule / Travel to the meeting place to arrive by 8:00 a.m. We will get on the water at the livery and float 8 miles downstream to Cedar Grove, where we’ll be picked up by Morgan’s staff and transported back to the livery. The trip will likely last 5-7 hours, depending on how frequently we stop to fish. Be advised that the river will likely have many other canoers on it (presuming it’s a hot weekend day, this tends to be the case), so we will be sharing the river. The fish don’t mind, so just be patient and don’t throw any casts when there are canoers in casting distance.
Meals / Each participant should bring a shore lunch.
We will meet at the halfway point of the float for lunch and to discuss which tactics are working. Also, please bring plenty of water, Gatorade, or whatever else you choose as a thirst quencher. It gets hot on the river and fishing is no fun if you’re dehydrated. If you have a dry bag, there will be hooks on the kayak where it can be secured. If not, a standard plastic bag (Kroger, Walmart, etc) works fine. Just remember to secure your lunch to the kayak, in case of a tip over.
Registration / If interested, please register on the BUFF trips reservation page on the website. Contact me if you have specific questions.
REGISTRATION IS LIMITED TO EIGHT (8) PERSONS.
Equipment / We will most likely be floating from spot to spot, and then exiting the kayaks and wade fishing the best fishing holes. Most of the water we will wade will be less than hip deep, so wet wading is an option for those who don’t want to wear hot chest waders in a kayak all day (I don’t!).
Also, remember sun protection. Much of the river is open and shade can be hard to find. Nasty sunburns happen quickly if you don’t protect yourself.
Waders, Rain Jacket, Fishing Hat, Sunglasses, Sunscreen, Landing net, Nippers, Hemostats, Split shot, Strike Indicators, Floatant, Camera, etc. Bring clothing suitable for summer. The weather could be very hot, nice or cold and wet. Afternoons may be sunny and warm. Wading and accessing the stream is relatively easy, but a wading staff can sometimes be helpful, not so much for deep water but for slippery stones.
Rods: 5-7 Wt. rods will fish well. Bring two if possible, just in case one gets eaten by a car door or trunk lid. Floating line and 8’-10’ leaders are adequate to fish these streams, although sinking tips can also be an asset in certain conditions. Tippets of 3X-4X are recommended.
Suggested Flies:
As we will be fishing for smallmouth, we have predominantly fished this river with streamers. Yellow and white Zoo Cougars fished on the surface have been productive in the past, as have Clouser Minnows and Wooly Buggers fished on the bottom. Smallmouth tend not to be as picky as trout, so anything that looks alive will work depending on stream conditions. There are good populations of shad minnows, darters, crayfish, etc. in the stream, so anything that mimics any of these species will produce fish.
Fly Tying / Not for this day trip.
