Setting the Stage
1. Today we are going to learn about how to play and clean up in the dramatic play, blocks, and sand and water areas.
2. Demonstrate where to place the center time sticks at each center.
3. Discuss the rules for each center and relate the rules to being safe: ie) height to build blocks, keeping sand/water in the tables, and not climbing furniture in dramatic play.
4. Show the children how to know where to put materials back after playing. Point out shelf labels.
5. Talk about how to play at each center. Demonstrate how to build a tower in blocks, how to find dress-up clothes to dress up in, how to use sand/water tools while using self-talk during demonstration. / Targeted Statements/Predictions/Open-Ended ???
1. Using self-talk to demonstrate building in blocks: Say, “I want to build a tower with blocks. First I need to take a block off the shelf. Then I need to place another block on top of the first block. I will keep stacking blocks on top of each other until my tower is finished.
2. What would happen if we did not clean up our materials when we are finished?
3. Why do you think we only a certain number of friends can play at blocks? What would happen if too many friends tried to play at the center all at the same time? / Wrap Up Statements
1. Today we learned about playing in the block center, the dramatic play center, and the sand/water tables.
2. We learned where to put our free play sticks, how to clean up the centers and how to play in the centers.
