Minutes of Regular Meeting Board of Education August 25, 2008

Meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m.

Roll Call: Jennings, Johnson, Jost, Witthuhn and Springer. Peters and Reisner were absent. Others present: Al Brown, Superintendent; Tammy Lenbom, Business Manager; Jill Koenitzer, Elementary Principal; Rachel Westberg, The Chetek Alert; Linda Zeman, Special Education Director; Larry Zeman, High School Principal; Bryan Yenter, Middle School Principal and Ceil Marc

Motion by Jost, seconded by Johnson to approve the agenda. Motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Springer, seconded by Jost to adjourn into closed session. On a roll call vote motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Johnson, seconded by Witthuhn to go back into open session. Motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Jost, seconded by Johnson to recess the meeting to tour the daycare facilities. Motion carried unanimously.

Communication:

Special Education: Linda discussed the classes that are being co-taught with the Special Education staff. Business Office: The audit is complete. The Food Service department ended the year with $5,200. The annual meeting is scheduled for September 22 at 7:00 p.m. Elementary: The staff is busy learning new software. The daycare now serves children 6 weeks old to 12 years old. There are 40 children enrolled. Middle School: Software training has been a major focus for starting the new year. Open House had a positive impact. All fall sports are up and running. A batting cage and pitching machine were donated to the school by Stan Johnson. High School: The staff was able to listen to a speaker on what high performing high schools look like. Superintendent: The Barron County Group will meet at 5:00 p.m. before the start of the Region I meeting on October 8th. Board Members: Genie reminded Board members of the Region I meeting on October 8th.

Information & Action:

Motion by Witthuhn, seconded by Johnson to direct the administration to continue to gather information for the Board to make an evaluation on whether the Board wants to continue looking at a potential purchase of the property at 1221 6th Street. Motion carried with Springer voting no.

Motion by Jost, seconded by Johnson that with regard to B/SR-3, Accountability of the Superintendent, GP-11, Addressing Board Member Violations, EL-3, Treatment of Stakeholders and EL-9, Asset Protection, the School District of Chetek Board of Education concludes through self-assessment its performance and the Superintendent’s performance during the previous reporting period has been in compliance. Motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Springer, seconded by Witthuhn to approve the recommended maintenance projects in the amount of $86,328. Motion amended by Jost, seconded by Witthuhn to add up to $8,000.00 to finish replacing the middle school lockers. Amended motion carried unanimously. Motion by Jennings, seconded by Springer to increase the allocation for landscaping and signage by $5,000.00. Motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Witthuhn, seconded by Jost to approve the revisions to the Athletic and Co-curricular Code of Conduct with the suggested changes. Motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Jost, seconded by Witthuhn to approve the Consent Agenda. Motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Springer, seconded by Johnson to adjourn. Motion carried unanimously. Meeting adjourned at 9:18 p.m.
