JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title:Housing Improvements Tech Grade: 7

Division:Housing Improvements Employee Type: FT/Seasonal

Department:Weatherization FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Reports to:Technical Services Coordinator EEO Class: 6 (Craft Workers)

Position Summary: Supports Housing Improvements operations, including weatherization, conservation, minor home repair, and rehabilitation, by making home improvements to single family home, multi-family housing, and mobile homes. Work primarily involves installing insulation, and occasionally replacing doors and windows.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Completes work to stop general heat loss in houses, multi-family dwelling, and mobile homes. Prepares for and installs weatherization materials including insulation, windows, doors and caulking.
  1. Occasionally completes minor home repairs.
  1. Evaluates and resolves on site technical problems. Notifies supervisor of job site problems.
  1. Orders, picks up and delivers materials, tools, and supplies as assigned by supervisor.
  1. Cleans up debris after work is complete.
  1. Completes required paperwork in a timely, accurate, and legible manner.
  1. Trains co-workers as assigned.
  1. Performs blower door/duct testing as needed.
  1. Continually monitors job site activities to ensure they are safely performed and in compliance with SNAP’s policies and procedures.
  1. Works with coworkers and volunteers to promote a positive, respectful, and productive working environment, while protecting client and co-worker confidentiality.
  1. Within the context of the stated principle job duties, serve as an ambassador of SNAP’s mission and values.
  1. Completes assigned projects and performs related duties as assigned or the situation dictates.
  1. Provides excellent customer service at all times as well as helps to grow the customer service culture within the agency.

Requirements:

Education and Experience

  • Required: High School or equivalent; four years of experience in all phases of minor home repair and/or weatherization work including two years of experience installing doors and windows.
  • Preferred: High School or equivalent; four years of experience in all phases of minor home repair and/or weatherization work and additional plumbing or electrical apprenticeship experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to empathize with and advocate for low-income and vulnerable people, and to maintain confidentiality with personal information
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn weatherization skills for single- and multi-family homes, as well as mobile homes
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn weatherization theory, installation techniques, and specifications
  • Ability to safely use construction and insulation tools, materials, and equipment
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn to install doors and windows
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with emphasis on effectively working in a team environment and with a diverse population
  • Ability to complete paperwork in a legible manner

Training and Certifications

  • Ability to be certified for respirator use and to participate in annual lead exposure testing
  • Safety training (ongoing)
  • Valid drivers license, insurance and satisfactory driving record

Work Environment/Physical Activities:

This position requires working in seasonal heat and cold. Must be able to safely perform physical aspects of the job including lifting up to 85 pounds, pulling, transporting, handling equipment and materials, crawling, and using step ladders. Frequently works in confined spaces, such as beneath floors and in attics and crawl spaces. May require working on rooftops and other potentially hazardous areas. May be exposed to dusty, wet, muddy, poorly ventilated and occasionally unsanitary environments. May be exposed to fumes and substances including paint, solvents, and other materials.
