Re: Resignation from Rotary Club of Brainerd

Dear Tim:

At its meeting on January 29, 2014 the Membership Committee of the Rotary Club of Brainerd received and discussed your notice of intent to resign your membership in our Rotary Club. The committee respectfully and regretfully accepted your resignation and asked that I connect with you before the Board of Directors receives our committee’s recommendation.

There is a significant difference between being a member of a Rotary Club and truly being a Rotarian. The former is just that: being a member of an organization and fulfilling its requirements in order to remain in good standing. The latter is very different and carries significantly more obligations but also brings the Rotarian a significant return on his/her investment. A Rotarian is part of an order of more than 1.2 million men and women with a shared vision of a better world, one where peace and justice will one day be realized, where every child of every country and every race and without regard to financial means can set and work to achieve goals of a healthy, happy and fruitful future.

But, you already know that as well as all the Rotarians around the world because you share that same vision. So, before we take final action on your resignation, I wanted to ask you this question: “What would it take for you to want to remain a member of the Rotary Club of Brainerd and, more importantly, continue to be a Rotarian in pursuit of the vision all Rotarians share?” If you tell me you prefer to not be a member, we will respect that position and forward our recommendation to the Board of Directors for their final action. If, on the other hand, you are unable to remain a member of our club because of personal or professional commitments, then I hope you will consider joining another club where you can continue to work to make the Rotary vision real. Of course, in order to do that, you will want to be a member in good standing in the Rotary Club of Brainerd. Once you have fulfilled any current obligations to our club (i.e. payment of dues, meals, quarterly sustaining member investment, etc) we will issue you a letter documenting our acceptance of your resignation and that you have resigned your membership “in good standing”, which you can present to another Rotary Club to which you apply for membership.

I hope you will contact me, Tim, in the next week to discuss your future plans relating to being a Rotarian. Please call my home (218.829.0885) or cell (218.838.4668) phone.

Sincerely,

ROTARY CLUB OF BRAINERD
