Purpose: How Do the Wavelengths of Different Color (Visible Light) Compare to Each Other?
Comparing Colors Wavelength
Directions: Copy down the purpose and answer all questions in this inquiry. Remember to include part of the question into your answer.
Purpose: How do the wavelengths of different color (visible light) compare to each other?
Procedures:
- Get a sheet of graph paper from the teacher.
- You will need 6 different colored pencils. (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Violet)
- Have the graph paper taller than it is longer
- Give a title for the graph at the top of the page.
- Number the intervals on the X-axis by 1’s. (From 1 – 30)
- Title the X axis “relative wavelength”
- Number the intervals on the Y-axis by 1’s. (From 1 – 35)
- Label the Y-axis “relative wave height”
- Using the correct colored pencils, plot the points of the “red” (Y-axis) and Relative wavelength (X-axis).
- Connect the dots to create a line graph.
- Continue this process of graphing the different colors vs. the wavelengths of all the 6 waves from the data table below use the correct colored pencil for each of the 6 different waves.
Analyzing the Data:
- How long was the Violet wavelength?
- How long was the Blue wavelength?
- How long was the Green wavelength?
- How long was the Yellow wavelength?
- How long was the Orange wavelength?
- How long was the Red wavelength?
- What color has the longest wavelength?
- How much longer is the red wavelength than the blue?
- How much longer is the Green than the violet?
- Describe a pattern that you see in this graph in dealing with colors?
- What color has the most energy and why?
- What color has the least energy?
