ITEM / DISCUSSION / ACTION /
1. Review of the agenda / Recruitment for OIPRC Advisory group was added to the agenda.
2. Review of the minutes from last meeting / Loretta to send changes to Stefanie.
3. In-person meeting follow-up
/ a)  Recruitment for OIPRC Advisory group:
Loretta has been the Core Group rep on the Advisory group and is currently co-chair. There are reps from other key stakeholder groups as well. Lorna Boratto and Colleen Cooper will be retiring and the Advisory group is looking for more public health presence and frontline managers.
The commitment is a teleconference a few times a year, and there are plans for a face-to-face meeting. If you know someone who would be a good fit, (Toronto rep, enforcement rep, etc.), let Linda Y at OIPRC know.
b)  Review of meeting evaluation:
Very positive feedback. Feedback included more info on various topics and ideas for future meetings.
A question was raised regarding the status of the French translation of the Rethink Your Drinking campaign. Is this moving forward?
There are still a lot of questions on what that will look like, and it is unclear when it will happen.
c)  Action items from meeting:
Call with OPHA and other groups about the release of the Economic Burden of Injury report and plans to develop a business case for injury prevention.
Other collaborations between groups in the province have been helping health units know what’s going on across the province.
d)  Send meeting notes to all managers:
Resources are linked in the notes – need to ensure that all the links work.
Those who were not present at the meeting won’t understand the context of the links and won’t get everything out of those sites; don’t know if it’s helpful for the managers.
Question was raised about a participant list from the meeting. It would be helpful to have an updated list, or an updated list of managers in the province. / Loretta to send out the commercial that she and Linda Y will write. Deadline to express interest is April 17.
Loretta to flag Amy and raise this question.
Loretta to pull links out and send them as documents/attachments to people to be more helpful.
Follow up with Stephanie C on documents to send out to collaborations.
Loretta to work with Stephanie C to see if this is possible – can make a protected page on the website/microsite for contact information.
Everyone should take a look at the in person meeting minutes to get further context to be able to discuss at the next Core Group meeting in May.
4. Injury Business Case with key stakeholders / The group talked about what an approach might be, the possibility of refreshing previous documents, what we might do to keep awareness high. There was discussion of developing a toolkit. The next meeting is April 9th.
Pam from Parachute gave an update. Parachute is working with economists, which is a new group to work with.
5. Updates on collaborations/projects
a)  OCPN
b)  LRADGs and Youth
c)  Provincial LRADG Workgroup / a)  OCPN:
There was a meeting last week that included a presentation from the Brain Injury Association of Ontario. There were about 50-60 participants on that call. There was lots of good discussion and the minutes should be available soon.
There has been discussion about outreaching through the MOHLTC.
Another piece that was discussed was about physicians charging for concussion follow up documentation and this is an issue that has not been resolved yet.
b)  LRADGs and Youth:
Content has been prepared and reviewed for an infographic and tip sheets. It has gone to Kingston for graphics. Inforgraphics and tip sheets were the key deliverables. There will be plans for dissemination.
c)  Provincial LRADG Workgroup:
Daphne left the group.
Two deliverables: 1) developing a toolkit for the implementation of Rethink Your Drinking, 2) redesign of the website.
6. Updates from Priority Groups / Core Managers / Joelle – working with falls prevention for seniors.
Nancy – recently created an integrated project team that’s looking at bringing together folks promoting pedestrian safety and promoting walking. This began in January, but it’s working well and has us thinking of other ways injury and its key messages can be integrated when linked to behaviour we want to encourage (bicycling and bike safety, drowning prevention, etc.).
Shannon – recruiting for a health promoter in Kenora. For the first time there will be a mental health lead.
Mary Ann – all 5 NE health units have entered into a relationship with the NE LHIN. There will be a three-year partnership, and they have all been working with the local coalition on a 1- and 3- year workplan. This Friday, there will be a a face-to-face meeting of the NE regional working groups, which is chaired with one of the NE LHIN partners to develop a workplan across the NE. This is focused on falls in older adults.
Daphne – beginning stages of what Mary Ann has achieved: working with a LHIN and a number of stakeholders to develop a regional strategy. They are in the planning stages for the first stakeholder engagement meeting in June.
Texting and driving campaign is underway – June will be the big stop texting month.
Amanda – lots of personnel change.
Drafted briefing notes on cannabis and on Bill 31.
Completed distracted driving evaluation with regards to two regional sites to emphasize the current policy that the Region of Waterloo has in place (includes no Bluetooth). This was very successful; Health and Safety would like to roll this campaign across all sites.
Two ETPFs (evidence and practice based planning framework), which are research processes for why we want to go in this direction. The two on the go are for 1) concussions, and 2) medication/alcohol/falls in the Baby Boomer population.
Please Be Seated Coalition focuses on child passenger safety. There was a forum on April 7th with 26-27 participants. It included a great talk with local police, OPP, firefighters, reps from hospitals, family/children services, etc. There is interest in getting together again to discuss plans and bringing CPS messaging forward.
Loretta – collaboration with school boards re: PPM 158. We want to see what boards are going to do in follow up now that policies are in place.
Development of substance misuse strategy with public boards. This might include a drug continuum and a video.
Implementation science presentation will be shared with the management team in the next couple of weeks.
Nine MAPs were updated over the last year. Municipalities were invited to collaborate/consult.
Colleen Kiel has left for a secondment. Amy Gartner will be taking on the role of acting manager of the Health Promotion Performance and Accountability Unit effective April 7thuntil June 13th. Beginning on June 15, 2015, Dave Sit will be returning to Health Promotion Division from the Ministry of Labour and will be assuming the acting manager role until the end of Colleen’s secondment. Prior to his current role with the Ministry of Labour, Dave served as the Executive Assistant to the Assistant Deputy Minister, Health Promotion Division. / Joelle to send an update to Loretta to include in the minutes.
Wendy Carew works with the NE LHIN and has a background in public health, so she may be able to help get Daphne started with a regional strategy and getting health units to work with LHINs. Her contact information is:
