Professional Development Management System

Professional Development
Management System

(PDMS)

PDMS is the professional development registration and tracking system used by the Delaware Department of Education. PDMS is integrated with IMS, PHRST, Blackboard Learn, and DEEDS. A summary follows:

·  Access
Anyone with an IMS (Integrated Management System) account has access to PDMS.

·  PHRST to IMS to PDMS
PHRST updates IMS daily (overnight) that in turn updates PDMS daily (overnight). Therefore, the current position and work location in PDMS reflects what is officially entered into PHRST.

·  PDMS to Blackboard Learn
If a professional development activity uses Blackboard Learn as the delivery tool, PDMS creates the Blackboard course and registers the participants into the course in Blackboard on a daily basis. The PDMS to Blackboard update occurs daily between 6PM and 7PM.

·  Blackboard Learn to PDMS
New, as of September 15, 2013, there is an update from Blackboard to PDMS with completion status. If the course in Blackboard is setup to record Complete/Incomplete when the participant completes the course, the completion information from Blackboard will now update the completion status in PDMS awarding credit automatically in PDMS. This update takes place overnight between 1AM and 6AM.

·  PDMS to DEEDS
When credit is awarded in PDMS and is identified as re-licensure credit, that information will be transferred to DEEDS on a weekly basis over the weekend and will appear in DEEDS on Monday morning.

PDMS at the LEA Level

PDMS is used at the state level, but is also used at the LEA level. Currently, there are 19 LEAs that have used the system to track professional development activities at the LEA level. Since July 1, 2012, LEAs have used PDMS to track 1,287 sections of professional development in addition to the 1,513 sections offered at the state level though the Department of Education and the Delaware Center for Educational Technology. The largest LEA users of PDMS are Caesar Rodney, Capital, Delmar, Indian River, Polytech, Seaford, Sussex Tech, and Woodbridge.

If you want to learn more about using PDMS in your LEA to track professional development activities, contact Dr. Wayne Hartschuh, DCET Executive Director at or 302 857-3305.
