Back to Top Unconscious Bias in Recruitment A seminar to help you recruit the best talent

The ability to identify, measure and manage unconscious bias presents a significant opportunity to improve recruitment performance. We all have unconscious biases and as a result our recruitment activities are vulnerable. For example : job specification development, screening, interview processes, assessment centre processes, selection processes, on- boarding. The prize for reducing your vulnerabilities to unconscious bias is more talent for your organisation or your clients. Those who can best address unconscious bias will generate significant competitive advantage for themselves.

Who is this seminar for? This seminar is for organisations in all sectors. It is of greatest relevance if your role involves :  Any recruitment activity or oversight role  Recruitment Sales  Talent Management  Succession Planning  Diversity, Equality, Inclusion, HR, Employee Development, Organisation Development, Learning & Development, Legal or Policy Development.  Performance Management

What will you gain from attending? The seminar will guide you in understanding what unconscious bias is and how it creates vulnerabilities throughout your recruitment activities, undermining your strategies, processes and resources. It will show you how to identify and measure unconscious bias and how to counter it effectively. Specifically, it will help you to:

 Understand what unconscious bias is and how it works  Understand how it undermines your recruitment activities  Understand how unconscious bias can be measured to predict discriminatory behaviour*  Explore tools and techniques available to counter it  Network with peers in other organisations  Create your own action plans to take back to the workplace

* You will also be provided with free access to measurement tools to try yourself, outside the seminar.

In-house Training Enquiry

We also provide diversity training in-house for organisations, either whole groups or on a one-to- one basis for senior personnel.

Why PRM? A couple of recent client testimonials :

Client 1 "During my career I have been on a number of diversity workshops. It's clearly an important area, and I wanted my team to do some collective thinking about diversity, but I didn't want the same old stuff we've all experienced before. Harish tailored his "Diversity Challenge" workshop for us, and ran it twice, with half the team attending each session. The feedback shows how highly staff regarded both the workshop, and Harish himself. He has an unusual but extremely useful perspective, clearly linking diversity to achieving business benefits." Deputy Director Feedback from trainees :  Not the usual diversity training – useful for clarifying what diversity means for us and its benefits  Moved beyond ‘usual’ theory to ask interesting questions to think through the issues  Much less of a pc approach and therefore more useful in terms of boundaries/limitations/application in real life situations  I expected to be lectured at but this was not the case  An opportunity to apply more detail to the work in question  A good non-threatening environment in which to better understand a realistic application of diversity within our project  Not the standard training that I have done before; the tie-in to business benefits etc made it feel more real  Very useful and practical session  The course was very real and examples of our work were used where possible – not a typical diversity course

Client 2 “The real appeal of PRM’s The Diversity Challenge is that it takes diversity issues beyond what other training is trying to achieve. It’s not a box ticking exercise. After years of being hit with the mantra of equal opps, BME and diversity this suddenly helps employees to believe it has a purpose.” Personnel Officer Feedback from trainees :  Revealed diversity as a practical way to improve customer care and business in general  I will take forward how important diversity is as a business opportunity  It helped me realise that diversity is not just a moral issue but can also be an efficient business tool  The frank talking made for effective interaction  Very enjoyable and extremely informative workshop that I feel can be used in my normal day of work and in life  The sessions were unexpectedly energetic and we talked in business terms  I will consider how diversity impacts on all aspects of my team’s work and ensure that it is recognised, understood and considered  The concentration on culture change issues was most useful
