Practice Evaluation Project

Survey

I conducted a survey to find out if the girls at West Ridge Academy would like to return to Camp Hanna. The survey included questions regarding if they would like to return to camp Hanna and if the devotionals were effective for their treatment program.

Literature Review

The West Ridge Academy Director, Michael Ruoho, made the comment that he would like to return to Camp Hanna next fall. One of the primary goals of this camp was to give the girls a breath of fresh air by creating an environment of healing in the mountains. By conducting a survey we can find out if the campers would like to go, as well as the effectiveness of the devotionals provided by the staff and therapists. An additional purpose for this survey is that if we can provide evidence that the girls benefited from this camp to the staff, we may receive sufficient budgeting to return in the fall.

Method

I created this survey, with the approval of Michael Ruoho, and the appropriate number of copies at the West Ridge Academy copy center. During lunch time, I passed out a survey to each of the girls that attended Camp Hanna. I asked each girl to place the survey at the end of the table when they were finished. This was an efficient way to collect data from each participating camper.

Processing

I tallied the numbers and made percentages for each category. There were two questions. Please see graphs below.

Results

1. How would you rate your overall trip to Camp Hanna?

2. How would you rate the effectiveness of the devotional for your treatment program?

(Please ignore column 1, 2, and 3. Computer malfunction—cannot delete).

Implications

Based on the results, 100% of the campers said they would like to return in the fall. 95% of the campers said that their overall trip to camp Hanna was Excellent and they would like to return to camp, while 5% said that the overall trip was good (see graph below).

75% of the campers said that the devotionals were excellent and helped their treatment goals. 15% said that the devotionals were good, while 10 % said the devotional were average quality in helping their treatment goals (see graph below).

It would be a great idea to take the campers back to Hanna in the fall and continue with the devotionals.

Limitations

A limitation with this survey is that the girls are eager to take advantage of every opportunity to go off campus and this is a sure way to get a vacation. They may have said that the trip helped their treatment goals, in efforts to return next fall. Another limitation is that the data is based on two questions and there are many other aspects of the trip to address.

Recommendations

I recommend that West Ridge Academy support the girls’ campus and provide sufficient budgeting to allow for the therapists and staff to take the girls back to Camp Hanna in the fall. It was an excellent trip and 75% of the girls benefited from the devotionals that were given. I would like to take the results to a staff meeting and present them to the entire board of directors. It would smart to conduct another survey, possibly a qualitative one, to explore other areas of the trip. We can survey the campers to find areas of improvement to help their treatment goals for our next trip to Hanna.
