Attendance/Preparation

20- Preparation is excellent. Student is on time and prepared for every class. Turns in notebook at the end of the unit.

15- Preparation is very good. No more than 1 illegal absence. No more than 1 late or unprepared.

10- Preparation is good but student is unprepared or late 2 times.

5- Student is mostly unprepared or late (3 times).

0- Student does not attend and/or participate in class regularly. Late or unprepared more than 3 times.

Personal Effort/Attitude

20- Student looks for challenges and tries fitness activities to improve the level of personal fitness. Always works hard and encourages others. Shows interest in learning fitness concepts at all times. Is always attentive during lectures, instruction, and during activity. Able to apply fitness concepts to improve personal fitness.

15- Student tries hard and performs as well as their ability will allow in all fitness areas. Shows interest in learning fitness concepts. Mostly attentive in lectures, instruction, and during activities.

10- Student’s effort is acceptable and accommodating to help make class function (run smoothly). Can be influenced by negative behaviors. Occasionally quits or gives up. Occasionally makes negative remarks and/or not attentive during lecture.

5- Student’s effort inconsistent. Tries sometimes but gives up easily. Body movement not keeping up with the class. Often makes negative remarks. Student is not attentive during lecture.

0- Makes very minimal or no effort to engage in activity. Makes negative comments. Is a hindrance to the class. Rude and disruptive during the lecture and class.

Safety/Rules

20- Student has learned rules and performs skills in a safe manner for self and others. Can be counted on to follow guidelines, rules, and procedures set forth in lecture. Encourages others to do the same. Always shows respect for teacher and fellow students. Always follows directions. Listens during instruction.

15- Participation skills are good. Learns and demonstrates proper techniques, follows guidelines and rules as instructed most of the time. Usually shows respect for teacher and fellow students. Usually follows directions. Occasionally is involved in horseplay and or talking during instruction.


10- Participation skills are adequate. May need a reminder on occasion to follow guidelines and rules as instructed. Occasional disregard for the safety of others. At times shows disrespect for students and teachers. Is engaged in horseplay or talking too often.

5- Participation skills are inconsistent. Needs to concentrate on essential safety guidelines and requires supervision during activity. Must be talked to on several occasions because of talking or horseplay. Disrespectful to students and/or teachers. Does not follow directions.

0- Does not participate as instructed. Continually disrupts class because of reckless behavior, horseplay or talking. No respect for teacher/students.
