Part-Time Weekday Educator

Job Summary: Contribute to the Program Department’s effort to welcome, entertain and educate our groups and visitors through shows, facilitated activities and more. Managing field trip groups in the museum galleries takes approachability, finesse and excellent customer service skills. Tesla Coil and other museum shows requires charisma and an engaging personality. This position will require strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Department: Program Department

Reports to: Program Director

Education: In pursuit of or have obtained a bachelor’s degree in biology, zoology, chemistry, physics, engineering, theater, science education or related field.

Skills Required: Interpersonal skills and a high level of initiative are a must. Performance or customer service skills are a plus.

·  Portrays an infectious enthusiasm and positive energy with groups and visitors.

·  Has an approachable personality when on the museum floor.

·  Charismatic entertainment skills; can engage an audience with confidence; can present a wide variety of content to all ages.

·  Creative mind that seeks new information and knowledge to expand their understanding of the world.

·  Strong written and verbal communication skills.

·  Attention to detail, especially when it comes to cleaning up after events and activities.

·  Ability to work with a team as well as alone.

Job Responsibilities:

§  Orient, manage and engage with groups that visit the museum.

§  Maintain a positive attitude while on the floor and interacting with visitors.

§  Present floor shows & educational programs.

§  Maintain floor demo and activity supplies, props, etc.

§  Keep storage areas in order.

§  Coordinate/assist with special events, mini-events, and special programming. Provide assistance backup during other museum events.

§  Willing to work agreed upon evening events.

§  General cleaning and tidying duties.

§  Other duties as assigned.
