Job Description

JOB PURPOSE

  1. To manage the delivery and development of skills training & opportunities across the Union, LSESU’s sports and societies offer and projects related to the Activity Resource Centre (ARC)
  2. To contribute to the development of student activities, opportunities and volunteer experience
  3. Line manage the Activities Team

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. To manage the delivery and development of skills training & opportunities across the Union, LSESU’s sports & societies offer and the student journey through activities
  • Manage the delivery of societies, sports and student media
  • Manage the delivery of volunteering and charity activities
  • Manage the delivery of skills training and development for the Union
  • Manage the delivery of SU awards and Welcome Fair
  • Manage the delivery of Annual Fund Process and relating School relationships
  • Responsible for the day to day updating and enforcing of regulations and procedures relating toSports, Societies, Media Group & ARC
  • Support society events that are considered riskier (reputational, legal or financial) through offering additional training, seeking advice from the School or putting in place contingency plans
  • Manage the delivery of student activities finance systems including processing payments, cashing up, invoices, and Daily Banking System
  • Coordinate annual registration processes ensuring volunteers are able to book rooms, use photocopiers and use the membership system
  • Primary operational liaison between with the Finance team on issues relating to Sports, Societies, Media groups & ARC
  • Lead work that contributes to the effective use of membership systems
  • Responsible for the delivery of reports and data in relation to opportunities and provision of reporting systems across activities
  • Responsible for contractual arrangements relating to the activities of Sports, Societies and Student Media,including the Annual Fund
  • Responsible for managing spaces for student activities at LSESU
  1. To contribute to the development of student activities, opportunities and volunteer experience
  • Contribute to the organisation’s strategic plan including putting forward evidence based ideas for improvements and new projects/services to Student Activities
  • Develop an evaluation framework which enablesLSESU to reflect on the precise role the SU can/should play in improving student experience through opportunities and societies
  • Liaise with organisational and institutional staff to deliver and develop opportunities
  • Liaise with external partners to understand our opportunities offer and how we could work more effectively with these organisations
  • Contribute to funding and sponsorship bids to fund existing areas of activity
  1. Line manage the Activities Team
  • Arrange, chair and keep a record of meetings with staff as it relates to activities, opportunities & development
  • Manage the learning and development of the Team
  • Manage the Team’s attendance at relevant events and conferences
  • Support officers’ attendance at University Committee meetings by attending with or on behalf of them, and by writing or supporting the writing of Union papers
  • Responsible for the work undertaken by the staff team with student officers, part-time staff and student staff

GENERAL DUTIES

In addition, all staff have the following general duties laid out in their job descriptions:

  • To deliver and develop targets outlined in the Union’s strategic plan.
  • To contribute and assist in the Union’s planning processes and the review of its performance and systems.
  • Contribute to the positive and professional image of the Union and not act in such a manner as to bring the Union into disrepute.
  • To observe and uphold the requirements of the Union Constitution and act at all times in accordance with policies including equality of opportunity.
  • To undertake your own typing, filing, photocopying etc.
  • Undertake any other duties appropriate for the grade and responsibilities of the post that may from time to time be reasonably requested.
  • To take ownership of, their Induction, Personal Review Programme, Departmental Staff Meetings and be responsible for carrying out duties with full regard to the rules, policies and procedures and conditions of service contained in the Staff Handbook, and within Departments of the Students’ Union.
  • A condition of employment is that all staff are expected to assist in key events throughout the year e.g. Freshers and welcome festivals and any other key event, including elections, if necessary. Staff are expected to portray a positive image, both internally and externally of the Students’ Union by displaying high standards of service, integrity, punctuality, politeness and professionalism.
  • Where you are required to work with volunteers you must support and manage them appropriately in line with the Students’ Union volunteer policy
  • Environmental consideration and environmental best practice is the responsibility of all Students’ Union staff
