WATERBURY HOUSING AUTHORITY Notice of Nomination Period – Tenant Commissioner Election

This notice is to advise all Tenants of property that is owned or managed by the Waterbury Housing Authority (“WHA”), or any Tenant receiving housing assistance in a housing program directly administered by WHA, that there will be a Tenant Commissioner Election.

To have an election, WHA must identify nominees. WHA will identify up to ten (10) candidates through self-nomination.

ELIGIBLE NOMINEES  must be a signatory on a lease with WHA or be a signatory on a lease with a private owner who is receiving assistance from WHA on your behalf or whose units are managed by WHA (“WHA Tenant”).  cannot hold any public office in Waterbury except justice of the peace or registrar of voters  must be in Good Standing with the WHA, which means that you have (i) not been more than ten (10) days late on rental payments or any other amounts due to the WHA more than four (4) times in a year; (ii) not otherwise been in violation of your lease; and (iii) remained in compliance with all other WHA policies  and, if elected, must take an oath of office to faithfully discharge, according to the law, your duties as a WHA Commissioner. All WHA Commissioners—including the Tenant Commissioner—receive no compensation for their service on the Board of Commissioners. WHA will verify each signature on each Nomination Card and Letter of Interest to ensure the nominee is an eligible WHA Tenant. The Election Supervisor will evaluate all nominations and select up to ten candidates for the election.

If you would like to nominate yourself as a candidate, you must complete a Nomination Card and submit a Letter of Interest. A Nomination Card for each WHA Tenant at your household is enclosed with this Notice. If you lose or misplace your Nomination Card, additional cards are available to eligible WHA Tenants at WHA’s main office: 2 Lakewood Road, Suite B, Waterbury, CT 06704. The Election Supervisor may contact you to confirm your interest in serving and your eligibility.

NOMINATION DEADLINE – You may either mail or hand deliver your Nomination Card and Letter of Interest. In order to be considered, your Nomination Card and Letter of Interest must be received by WHA on or before 3:00 p.m. on September 27, 2017, at WHA’s main office: 2 Lakewood Road, Suite B, Waterbury, CT 06704. WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? – After the nomination period closes, the Election Supervisor will identify the candidates who will appear on the ballot.
