Northumberland Nighthawks Athletic Contract 2015-2016

The Nighthawk Athletic Program is open to all students who attend Northumberland Regional High. Participation on any athletic team or group is a privilege and not a right. The Nighthawk Athletic Division ll Programs require a strong player/coach commitment, proper time management, and a desire to excel in academics and athletics. At all times the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation’s Code of Ethics and Policies will be adhered to. Student-athletes who choose to participate are expected to adhere to the following:

1. Team Commitment: Players are expected to honor the commitment made to the coach and teammates attending all practice and competitive sessions on a regular basis as scheduled and making the team apriority over optional trips and social events. Coaches understand and that required academic and extracurricular activities may take precedence over team practice. Any excuse from practice must be given to the head coach. Players are expected to attend team meetings.

2. Student-Parent-Coach Communication: Successful involvement in athletics requires commitment and understanding from students, parents, and coaches. To be successful, communication must take place. Parents should expect the following communication from coaches.

a. Time and location of practices/games. b. Information about coaching philosophy

c. Expectations of all team members

d. Details about fees, special equipment, conditioning

e. Notification of any time the student is injured during participation

3. Students must have satisfactory attendance at school to participate in athletics. Students must be in school the day of a game or practice in order to participate in that games or practice.

4. Academics will be constantly monitored. Our athletes are students first and any indication that they are failing or falling behind in their work will result in an Academic Agreement being developed which may see athletic privileges suspended until academics improve. These decisions will be made by administration in consultation with teachers and coaches.

5. Playing time: the Head Coach is the final decision-maker. Respect this at all times.

6. Alcohol, drugs, and tobacco (e-cigarettes) are not permitted at any time or place during sporting events.

7. Inappropriate language is not acceptable at any school or sporting event. (Racial, religious, gender slurs). These can result in immediate suspension by the NSSAF and/or school.

8. Student-athletes are not permitted to drive themselves or other student- athletes to any sporting event outside Pictou County. Within Pictou County, students are permitted to drive ONLY themselves to sporting events. 9. Athletic Fundraiser: All NRHS athletes will be involved in a required fundraiser.

10. Uniform deposits must be paid by the first game for players to play. Team fees must be paid by the set dates for athletes to be eligible to play.
