NAPA-SOLANO AUDUBON SOCIETY SCHOLARSHIP
Napa-Solano Audubon is a non-profit conservation organization whose mission is to share the fun of birding, promote conservation and scientific understanding of wild birds and their habitats, and offer engaging, science-based education emphasizing the communities of Napa and Solano counties.
The purpose of this scholarship is to assist a graduating student from a Napa or Solano County high school who will begin studies at a Community College or a four year college, pursuing studies in (but not limited to) environmental science/studies, environmental law/policy, conservation biology, natural resource management, or a stated indication of how the student will pursue conservation studies in their career. Consideration will be given to students who have participated in community and volunteer activities related to the environment or conservation.
To qualify, please submit a one-page essay about your future plans and why you feel you deserve the scholarship. We will look at this essay for evidence of a passion for nature and the environment and the desire to preserve natural habitats for wildlife and future generations. This is an important screening issue as it sets some applicants apart from others who are looking for funds from any direction possible.
Grades are important, but not the most important item. Bright people stand out, just as passionate people do.
Community, volunteer, and work experience are also important and separate the applicants. Please submit a resume that includes your related experience in these areas, as well as any extracurricular activities that you feel are important for the Scholarship Committee to consider in this application.
Scholarship funds (in the amount of $2,000) will be awarded to a student in mid-April 2017 and will be distributed to the recipient upon enrollment for the Fall Semester.
The scholarship is subject to available funding and will be reauthorized on an annual basis depending upon budgetary constraints.
