My 1St Period Class Is: I VE GOT RHYTHM

Hi, there! My name is Dee Willis, and I’m so excited to be teaching at Super Friday for my 15th year!

Let me start by introducing myself. I am a native Texan, and have lived here all of my life with the exception of the 4 years we were in Knoxville, Tennessee. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Music in Therapy from Sam Houston State University. I have been teaching piano, guitar, and practicing Music Therapy for 29 years. I am married to my wonderful husband Charles who labors as an Evangelist and Elder for the New Caney Church of Christ. We have raised two wonderful children: Joshua(24) who lives in College Station and Rachel(22) who is now married and a Momma to our sweet grandbaby, Evie, and living in Odessa.

I teach PERFORMANCE classes at Super Friday which means we have a performance at the end of each semester. Our Performance is always on the last day of Super Friday at 2 pm. This semester that date will be Friday, April 27th. Please mark that on your calendar right away and make plans to be there. It is very important that all of the students in my classes be in the final performance!

My 1st Period class is: I’VE GOT RHYTHM

Students in this class must wear closed toe, lace up shoes (sneakers and/or hiking boots are ideal.) This is strictly for safety. We do a lot of jumping and movement through moving poles on the floor! Students in this class frequently get a huge aerobic workout in class so they all need to have a water bottle in class. We also do bucket drumming – I have plenty of drum sticks and Home Depot buckets in class right now but most of the kids like to have their own bucket to practice with. The buckets are less than $3 at Home Depot. You can also get them at Lowe’s and Alspaugh’s.

My 2nd Period class is: CHIMES

No materials are needed for this class.

My 3rd Period class is: CYT@SCHOOL and OUR GANG

This semester’s show is Pinocchio! Students will have an audition for parts during the first day of class. They will be asked to sing Happy Birthday, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, or an excerpt from a song of their choice (bring accompaniment music on CD or electronic device if singing song of choice.) They will also be asked to read or recite small lines from the script in class. It is fine if your child is not yet a reader! We will help them with what they should say. The cast list will be emailed no later than Wednesday night, January 17th. All of the students will be included in the production and there are lots of speaking parts!

Students will be given a script and a CD of the music at the first class. They should bring their scripts to class every week. Once you know what their part is it would be very helpful to highlight their lines in their script and help them memorize their lines!

To have the best production possible I need volunteers to help in making sets and props and organizing and fitting costumes. Please let me know ASAP if you can help with these jobs as we don’t want to wait until the last minute to get things done!

Students in this class who are between the ages of 8-18 are eligible to audition for one of CYT’s main stage shows for the Spring semester. If you would like to be a part of that I will be sending a paper home the 2nd week of class with instructions on how that all works.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at any time by email at or by phone at 281-841-6459.
