Web Connectivity for Cost Sensitive Applications
Cincinnati, Ohio – The ADAM-6500 is a fully functional Ethernet-based controller for industrial automation and control. It provides an ideal environment to develop applications converting RS-232/485 devices/equipment data to the Ethernet/Internet world with a minimum amount of effort. Its built-in Windows CE.net operating system lets users run new programs produced by Windows embedded VB or VC++. The Windows environment also includes a web server to allow designers to develop web-enabled applications.
Built-in Ethernet and RS-232/485 COM ports
The ADAM-6500 has one Ethernet (10/100BASE-T) and four communication ports (3 x RS-232 and 1x RS-485). These provide easy communication between the controller and devices in your applications. Ethernet is designed for program download, debugging and the linkage between the serial devices and the Ethernet/Internet world. The COM1 port (RS-232) supports full RS-232 signals for applications such as modem connection, while the 3-pin RS-232 (COM2, COM3) and RS-485 (COM4) are designed as the interface of traditional RS-232/485 devices/equipment. The design allows the controller to be used in a variety of applications. For example, the user may download a data logging application into the ADAM-6500’s on-board Compact Flash memory while the ADAM-6500 is connected to a RS-485 network, then let it collect the data on the network.
Built-in real-time clock and watchdog timer
The real-time clock in the controller ensures an accurate time recording while the system operates. The watchdog timer is designed to automatically reset the CPU when the system fails.
ADAM-4000/5000 Windows CE Drivers Supported for Embedded VB and VC++
Microsoft Windows CE.NET is built-in to the ADAM-6500 as the operating system. It offers improved Windows compatibility, combined with hard real-time processing support. New kernel services, such as support for nested interrupts, better thread response, additional task priorities, and semaphores let the operating system respond immediately to events and interrupts. These real-time features make Windows CE.Net ideally suited for industrial automation applications. The ADAM-6500 also provides ADAM-4000/5000 Windows CE DLL drivers to help the developer easily write data acquisition and control programs under eMbedded Visual Basic or eMbedded Visual C++ development environment.
