Medisafe is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our R&D team based in Bishops Stortford. This is a multi-disciplined position that will see the successful applicant grow into the role and have the opportunity to help innovate and drive development of new and existing products to an international market.

Ideally the successful applicant will have a minimum of 5 years in a mechanical design and/or manufacturing/production environment where they have experience of and an understanding of the challenges faced in British manufacturing. They will be responsible for the design and sourcing of bought in product and must be comfortable liaising with new and existing suppliers to meet engineering challenges on complex purpose built machines.

Degree qualification is preferred, but not essential. Engineering apprentice qualifications and a person with the right attitude and experience could be successful. This person must be willing to take ownership of projects and processes within the department and company to see their ideas successfully deployed in addition to providing engineering support to the manufacturing department. The applicant will be required to be responsible and accept responsibility for project deliverables, part of this will require that the applicant be willing to spend time in a ‘hands on’ environment where they are required to build, modify and construct prototypes and small batch production.

This role will require the applicant to assist existing senior team members with meeting their requirements and ensuring the smooth operation of the department and its interfacing with other internal departments.

Essential skills:

Solidworks proficient – must be proficient with Solidworks and able to demonstrate this, specifically this role requires an understanding of sheetmetal and machined components, both milling and turning.

Engineering drawing – Be able to understand and generate engineering drawings this includes fits and tolerances, weldments/cutlists, welds, surface finishes and geometric tolerances.

Assembly experience – Must be able to demonstrate the ability to build items and understand how they can be designed better.

Good communication – Able to clearly and sufficiently communicate complex ideas to others both internally and externally as well as be able to understand what others are trying to explain to the them.

Computer proficiency – Comfortable with using a Windows based PC system and office suite to a high degree.

Friendly and resilient – Being part of a small team a friendly manner and good sense of humour is essential to successful integration.

Desirable skills:

EPDM experience

Purchasing and product procurement

Basic machining on both the lathe and mill

Adobe creative suite experience

Generation of manuals and assembly instructions
