Volunteers of the Year, June 2014

Christina Schwabecher and Corey Kidwell

C.T. English Home and School Club – Leslie O’Malley.

Leslie spearheaded our “Go Green” effort, and has actively raised our environmental conscientiousness. She has also been the backbone of the Holiday Craft Faire for three years. “ I have appreciated the opportunity to volunteer at the school,” Leslie said. “I learned about managing and motivating others and discovered my own passion for creating sustainability in many aspects of the school. I appreciate the award. It feels good to be recognized. I am I good company."

School Site Council – Laurie Orlando.

Laurie is a Loma and C.T. English parent who has served on virtually every committee. This year, she was honored for her leadership of School Site Council as this committee navigated the transition to common-core standards. “I have been working with the School Site Council for many years, and even now, without a budget, we have been able to bring great programs to help parents and students,” says Laurie. “It is an honor to have been chosen.”

Loma Public Education Fund – Nora Kim.

Nora is a tireless supporter of our schools. She has served as a co-chair of the Gala for three years. She navigates every challenge with a good sense of humor and a can-do spirit.

Loma Prieta School District – Christina Schwabecher.

Christina was honored for her dedication and creative leadership of the Measure H campaign. Christina brings her lifelong love of our mountain to her advocacy for our schools. “I enjoyed the opportunity to reach out to the mountain community through the campaign, and appreciate how people came together to support our great schools,” said Christina.

Teacher of the Year – Kris Denues.

Kris earned this honor for a second time. She is a leader in the adoption of new technologies and putting them in the hands of students. She makes strong connections with students. Her passion is evident in the many late hours she puts in at C.T. English.

Classified Employee of the Year – Eileen Bennett.

Also a repeat recipient, Eileen’s impact on our schools is legendary. She embodies the culture of a positive attitude, doing your best, and instilling school pride. She is humble, dedicated, and will be greatly missed when she retires in June after 29 years in the Loma Prieta school district.
