Policy Number / 018 / Version Number / 2
Drafted by / Claire Scott / Approved Date / 26/04/16
Responsibility / Port Melbourne Netball Club Inc / Review Date / 26/04/17

These policies have been designed to:

  • help members understand what the processes and procedures are in various circumstances;
  • ensure that our Club operates in an open and transparent fashion;
  • create equal opportunity to all members;

These set of policies also help the volunteers on the committee to ensure the club runs in a consistent and predictable manner over the years and as the committee members change.

Rationale / Purpose

The Port Melbourne Netball Club (PMNC) is committed to supporting the City of Port Phillip’s sustainable transport objective of reducing the impact of vehicles on local areas. This is particularly pertinent in the vicinity of the PMNC facilities at R F Julier Reserve, where no on site car parking is provided, and local roads are narrow and easily congested.

Therefore, the club encourages its members to use more sustainable transport modes such as walking, cycling or public transport, in preference to private vehicle use. This is also consistent with the PMNC’s role of facilitating a fit, active and healthy local community.

As such, and in respect of existing local residents’ amenity, the club has developed and adopted this Local Traffic and Parking Policy.

Policy

It is the policy of the PMNC to facilitate and promote the following measures in relation to traffic and car parking within the vicinity of R F JulierReserve:

  • To encourage club members and supporters to walk or cycle to the club’s facilities, as opposed to driving, particularly when a large, whole of club event is being held.
  • In circumstances where travel by car cannot be avoided, to request that club members and supporters park elsewhere in Garden City (i.e. designated car parking areas near other community services and facilities), in order to minimise car parking and congestion adjacent to R F Julier Reserve.
  • In circumstances where parking near the club facilities cannot be avoided, that club members and supporters are required to park only on one side of the road, being mindful of leaving sufficient room in the road reserve for other cars using the carriageway.
  • In circumstances where vehicular travel cannot be avoided, to encourage club members and supporters to car pool, thereby maximising the efficiency of car travel, and minimising the number of car trips overall.
  • To encourage club members and supporters to consider the amenity of existing residents when using the local roads, and to be courteous and mindful of maintaining vehicular access and minimising disruption at all times.
