Lilia Tanakeyowma Named Santa Ana College

Dean of Student Affairs

(Santa Ana) – Rancho Santiago Community College District has named Lilia Tanakeyowma as dean of student affairs at Santa Ana College. As dean, Tanakeyowma is responsible for the management of a number of student programs, including outreach, student activities, student leadership development, matriculation and commencement. She is charged with handling student complaints, resolving conflicts and addressing all student discipline issues. Tanakeyowma will continue to provide support for the college’s school and community partnerships program until the search for a new associate dean of student development is completed.

“The greatest challenges in my new position are meeting the incredible community need for education at a time of state budget limitations while ensuring that we provide the best outreach and support services possible to our diverse population,” said Tanakeyowma.

Tanakeyowma has extensive experience in teaching and administration across the K-16 system with a strong background in program development, implementation, professional development, and budget management. She has worked for Santa Ana College since 1998 when she was hired as director of student services managing the community outreach partnership center program funded by HUD.

Prior to her work at Santa Ana College, Tanakeyowma has held positions with the County of Orange Board of Supervisors, California State University, Fullerton, the

Orange County Coalition for Immigrant Rights and Responsibilities, and the Santa Ana Unified School District.

Tanakeyowma is a third-year doctoral student in the Department of Education at the University of California, Irvine. She holds a master’s degree in educational administration from California State University, Fullerton and a bachelor’s degree in Spanish/Portuguese literature from the University of California, Irvine.

In addition to her duties at Santa Ana College, Tanakeyowma serves either as a board member or active volunteer for a number of organizations including the HealthCare Foundation for Orange County, Latino Health Access, Project Access, the Association of Community/Higher Education Partnerships, and the United Way of Orange County.
