Language and literacy / numeracy requirements / These units support the development of language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills. Activities are designed to provide the learner with relevant automotive industry examples, opportunities to practice and then apply the skills and knowledge with real projects that meet the unit requirements.
Learner group characteristics and requirements / Students are enrolled in a Pre-Apprenticeship Program. The group has mixed secondary school completion levels and LLN skill levels and their ages also vary. The course is 'hands-on' where possible and mostly conducted in a workshop environment. This program intends to replace the workbook theory component with an online interactive course delivered via iPads to maximise student engagement.
Risk control plan / Normal workshop OHS processes are in place, including OHS inductions and wearing PPE. All students have completed the OHS core unit and a topic in this program will reinforce OHS concepts. The group participates in the Underpinning Skills in Industry Qualifications (USIQ) program two afternoons a week to provide additional LLN support and maximum opportunity to successfully complete the pre-apprenticeship course. Relevant policies and proceedures are in place for students under 18.
