LEARN 7 After School Program Winter 2015 Activity Descriptions

***To register for the After School Program, you must complete the online application. You will be asked to prioritize your preference by placing a 1, 2 & 3 in your top choices. We will do our best to ensure that your child gets their #1 pick but cannot guarantee it. Scholars will participate in only 1 activity for the duration of the program.

Art (Grades 2-4) 12 More spaces available! Register today! Students will spend time refining their drawing, painting, sculpting, and collaging skills through mixed media art. Students will also have the opportunity to give constructive criticism through critiques to help their classmates improve their projects as well as learn how to receive feedback. Students will focus on 1-2 projects for the first 2nd quarter session. At the end of our programming calendar parents will be invited to a Parent Share Night where students will share with you all of the projects they have been working on and what they have learned.

Athletics (Grades 2-4) 20 More spaces available! Register today! Participants will focus on improving their physical fitness and athletic skills through a variety of group games and sports. Participants will have the opportunity to work and play with others in a structured and safe environment.

Boys’ Mentoring (Grades 3-4 by invitation) Closed. No more spaces available. Boys to Men will focus on teamwork and respecting skills in a mentoring program. This program will last 10 weeks, meeting on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:15-5:15pm in Room 311. The themes will include: growing healthy, going strong, and a journey into respect. The boys will identify social-emotional messages, attitudes and smart options for growing up as a male in our culture.

Girls’ Circle (Grades 3-4 by invitation) Closed. No more spaces available. Girls’ Circle will focus on developing friendship skills in a mentoring program. This program will last 10 weeks, meeting on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:15-5:15pm in Room 314. The themes will include: Being my own friend first; Being included, Being left out; and Feuds, followers and fairness. The girls will identify social-emotional messages, attitudes and smart options for growing up as a female in our culture.

Math Tutoring (Grades 2-4) 20 More spaces available! Register today! In this after school math club, 2nd thru 4th grade scholars will practice grade-level math skills using exciting games and activities.

Interactive Arts & Crafts (Grades K-1) LEARN 7 After School Program Winter 2015

Rev-Up Your Reading (Grades 1-2) In this after school reading club, first and second grade scholars will practice grade- level reading skills using exciting games and activities. There will be a large focus on mastering grade level sight words through activities such as BINGO and Spelling Bees. Scholars will leave the program feeling more confident and inspired to read!

Drama & Dance (Grades 1-4) Scholars will audition, rehearse, and perform a musical production of Cinderella. Scholars will read, view, and discuss multicultural versions of this classic fairy tale.

Youth Dance Troupe (Grades 1-4) Rehearsals for 7YDT will take place on Thursdays from 4:00-5:15. Through a 2 session 9 week dance program, students will learn 360 degrees of dance including the art of Hip- Hop, lyrical, ballet, modern, African, tap, salsa, and cheer. At the end of each 9 week session Learn 7 will present a dance recital showcasing all skills learned through the 9 weeks.
