JOB TITLE: Learning Center Intern

REPORTS TO: Homeless Services, Coach 2 Career Coordinator

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Intern

TIME COMMITMENT: 5-19 hours/week

STARTING SALARY: $8.00/hour

Position Summary

The Learning Center Intern works under close supervision of Coach 2 Career Counselors in the Learning Center in order to learn about how to offer counseling/case management services to homeless and formerly homeless clients. The position is designed to help the interns learn about social services and to help fulfill their program and/or project requirements/responsibilities in alignment with their educational goals.

Supervisorial Responsibilities

1-5 volunteers

Essential Functions

1. Learn to meet individually with clients (chronically homeless singles) to assess job readiness; identify educational and vocational goals; assist with applications, cover letters, resumes, and interview techniques; and assess client progress.

2. Learn to maintain documentation and case files for individual clients; update HMIS information and client productivity logs for these clients in the areas of education, vocational training, employment, income; provide monthly Coach 2 Career report to Program Director.

3. Assist in the operation of 12 client access computers for word processing (e.g., resumes, cover letters) and for on-line access for education, vocational training, email, job search (e.g., CraigsList, SRJC, Monster.com, on-line job applications).

4. Meet bi-weekly with Coach 2 Career staff to review client progress.

5. Obtain and keep up to date knowledge of all Coach 2 Career services (Hire Attire, interview team, 7 week employment readiness class) and assist volunteers in the program.

6. Be thoroughly familiar with the policies and procedures guiding the work of this position in particular and the program or department overall. Perform job functions in line with these policies and procedures.

7. Participate in training required by accreditation standards, plus performance and quality improvement efforts.

8. Maintain professional behavior in all aspects of job:

·  Be an example of behavioral expectations. Be a positive role model and representative for Catholic Charities in the community.

·  Maintain a professional appearance and presence.

9. NOTE: Catholic Charities considers this position to be a mandated reporter of child and elder abuse.

1.  Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required

1. Current enrollment in institution of higher learning, where course of study requires internship; personal educational objectives in the field of social/human service.

2. Cooperative, friendly, and helpful attitude with clients and co-workers. Ability to work closely with other employees to ensure positive, constructive environment within the program or department, and throughout the agency.

3. Passion and enthusiasm for the mission of CCDSR and its clients.

4. Ability to thrive in a flexible, fast-paced and growth-oriented environment, while maintaining a sense of humor and a positive, solution-oriented approach.

5. Must pass fingerprinting prior to start of employment.

Physical Requirements

1. Requires ability to sit up to 3-6 hours per day.

2. Occasionally may be required to lift items up to 10 pounds to a height up to 3 feet.

3. Occasionally may be required to carry items up to 10 pounds for distances up to one block.
