Hatchmen / I was working on a log boat a few years back hooking up on the wharf. When the crane nearly had full weight of logs the hatchman looking from the deck of ship noticed the safety lid was ajar and warned me. I quickly moved to the side when with full log weight the wire came out and smashed to the concrete wharf. To this day if I had not been warned I believe the wire would have seriously injured or killed me. 1 life saved. Does that justify a hatchman? To me it does...
Stevedoring qualifications / Should the guidance material refer to the qualifications (Cert II, Cert III and Cert IV in Stevedoring) that have been developed for the stevedoring industry?

safety on the waterfront in Tasmania is definitely getting worse as more and more casual workers are employed and are under the pump to cut corners for fear of not getting picked up for work. This is real and it happens.
