How To Tell The Number of Wives Each Judge Had - Judge Gideon: Shalom and Hello Everyone,

Seems Yahuah Elohim raised up the Judges to be deliverers and examples to Israel. They were there to lead Israel in the Torah. Whenever a judge died, Israel always reverted to sin. That is the clear pattern that is portrayed in the Book of Judges.

See what is written and consider the title of this note:

Judges 2:16-19:

"Nevertheless, the Lord raised up judges who delivered them out of the hand of those who plundered them. Yet they would not listen to their judges, but they played the harlot with other gods, and bowed down to them. They turned quickly from the way in which their fathers walked, in obeying the commandments of the Lord; they did not do so. And when the Lord raised up judges for them, the Lord was with the judge and delivered them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge; for the Lord was moved to pity by their groaning because of those who oppressed them and harassed them. And it came to pass, when the judge was dead, that they reverted and behaved more corruptly than their fathers, by following other gods, to serve them and bow down to them. They did not cease from their own doings nor from their stubborn way."

Consider Judges 8:29-32:

"29 Then Jerubbaal (Gideon) the son of Joash went and dwelt in his own house. 30 Gideon had seventy sons who were his own offspring, for he had many wives. 31 And his concubine who wasin Shechem also bore him a son, whose name he called Abimelech. 32 Now Gideon the son of Joash died at a good old age, and was buried in the tomb of Joash his father, in Ophrah of the Abiezrites."

Gideon was a great and righteous judge according to the Scriptures from the tribe of Menashe. He is notable for the phrase "Gideon's Trumpet." He delivered Israel from the Midianites and ruled for 40 years.

How many wives did judge Gideon have?

If you read above Gideon had 70 sons who were "his own offspring." That means that he likely had at least 35 daughters.

I am going to be conservative here and estimate he had more sons than daughters instead of considering a 50% chance of having a daughter. In this case, Gideon had 105 children who were "his own offspring."

Ask yourself, can one woman bear 105 children? Please be realistic. Note also that he had a maid-servant wife who bore him only one child.

It is likely that Gideon had anywhere from 8 to 20 wives. If each wife had 10 children, you can estimate Gideon had about 10 wives minimum.

Gideon is not the only judge of Israel who had many wives. From my reading, whenever a judge is portrayed with the bearing of children, there were always enough children to easily discern the judge had more than one wife (many) in every case.

Now, how many people who proclaim to follow the Torah, especially in the "Messianic" movement, would allow Gideon to be their judge? If I discern correctly, most will rebel as ancient Israel did and go their own self-righteous ways which produces perversions.

My observation,

Yakov Levi
