DESCRIPTION: A course recommended for all students interested in the development of reading music and good instrumental technique. Only wind and percussion instruments are taught. The group is required to perform annually at the middle school Christmas concert and the spring concert.

DESCRIPTION: A course recommended for all students interested in furthering the development of good instrumental technique. A student may rent an instrument for a period of three months. At that time the option of buying the instrument can be made. Only wind and percussion instruments are taught. The group is required to perform annually at the middle school Christmas concert and the spring concert.

festivals.

DESCRIPTION: A pre-requisite for this class is at least one-year previous experience on a band instrument. The purpose of this course is to further the development of each individual on their music in general. The group is required to perform at two concerts each year. Students are recommended to remain in this course to advance to the High School.

Course Title: Advanced Choir

Grade Level: Eighth/Seventh

Requirements: Must attend all concerts or festivals

DESCRIPTION: Advanced choir will carry the bulk of the performing responsibilities at the Middle School. This will include the fall, Christmas, and spring concerts. Each year auditions will be held in the spring for the following year.

DESCRIPTION: Membership is open to any interested student. This group will be considered a training choir; therefore, performances will be limited.

DESCRIPTION: Beginning Art I is a studio/problem-solving/humanities program designed to open the art world to even the “non-talented” student. In this course the student will study drawing as well as design. The student will discover how to use and mix colors and do some simple crafts.

DESCRIPTION: Art II will develop the skills acquired in the first part of Beginning Art. Color and design will be stressed with emphasis on creativity. Students will work with three-dimensional materials and simple crafts.______

Course Title: Family and Consumer Sciences I

Grade Level: Seventh/ Eighth

DESCRIPTION: Family and Consumer Sciences I will cover the basic principles of sewing, use of the sewing machine, and various hand-stitching techniques. The students will complete one (1)-sewing project. Food class will consist of basic principles of preparing cookies, cakes and candy. Other areas that will be covered are baby-sitting, personal development and grooming.

DESCRIPTION: Family and Consumer Sciences II stress food and why we need it. Breakfast items are planned and prepared and nutritious snacks are also prepared, basic principles of sewing, including two sewing projects - one stuffed animal and the other an item of clothing, gym bag or gun case. The basic operation of the sewing machine is also taught.

DESCRIPTION : Tech I is designed to provide students with practical information about drafting, hand and power tools, project planning, wood and metal working. Students will learn basic drafting principles and how to apply them to develop small projects. Students will learn how to work safely and accurately with hand tools and a few power tools. Tech I is an introductory course designed to get students interested in the different fields of technology and allow them insight into the different courses we offer here at Ste. Genevieve. Students design and build small wood projects and develop a pattern and cut out and shape a project out of sheet metal.

Project Materials & safety glasses

DESCRIPTION: Students will be exposed to units in drafting, safety, metalworking, woodworking, electricity, and small gas engines. Projects will be built in both woodworking, and metalworking. Electricity and small gas engines will be explored on a theory basis. Students will be required to have safety glasses, and there will be a fee for project materials.

Course Title: General Business Applications

DESCRIPTION: The student will get an overview of the business world through this course as well as work with new technology. They will study units on our economic environment, careers in our global economy, consumers in our economy, credit, savings and investment strategies, technology in business, personal financial management, etc.

DESCRIPTION: Spanish History is a course that introduces students to the history of the Spanish language and its origin in approximately the Sixth Century BC. Students will also learn the historical background of those countries where Spanish became the native language. Students will be asked to do web-quests, participate in projects and presentations.

DESCRIPTION: Spanish Culture is a course where students will understand the meaning of culture. They will identify Spain and other Spanish speaking countries culture, including their arts and crafts, social manners, food music/dances, holidays, Students will do many hand-on-activities, role plays in Spanish, web-quests and basic Spanish vocabulary and phrases related to the topics learned.

The timeline for this survey ranges from the medieval times to the present. Students will conduct research using primary resources and translations and will participate in various projects and group presentations.______

DESCRIPTION: French culture is an exploratory class that will introduce the student to the concept of culture and culture shock in a multi-cultural world. Students will learn about the clothing, jewelry, food, music, art, dance, and gestures in French-speaking societies, among other things. Students will re-create many of the cultural institutions studied within the classroom setting. This is a highly participatory class where students can learn experientially.______

DESCRIPTION: French History is an exploratory course in which students will examine important events in French history and relate them to the present. The course will focus on events from the Enlightenment of the 18th century until the present. Students will be required to research past and present events in France. This is a participatory course where history will create a link to a better comprehension of the present. In the Ste Genevieve area, it is vital for students to understand the heritage of their community and understand the lasting effects of the events of the past. As lifelong learners, students develop skills while studying historical and cultural institutions that will help them make better connections to their own society as well as others.______
