HE WROTE A BOOK

Christianity has come a long way. It would be a mistake to think that the way we do things today is how it’s always been done. In two thousand years, pride, ambition, controversies and politics have shaped our faith into what it is today. Men have often over looked the work of the Spirit as the supreme authority and have made church a lucrative source of income and power. This is a far cry from the Spirit-led church recorded for us in the Book of Acts. Don’t get me wrong, there are many fantastic, Christ-centered churches out there but the point is this – unless you walk with your eyes open, you may stumble and fall into a ‘church’ that has very little, if anything, to do with Jesus and everything to do with ego, money and pride.

There is no such thing as a perfect church or Christian but we should all be trying. The problem is this: If we cannot always trust what others are saying, how do we know what to do in order to be the best we can for Christ?

The answer is beautifully simple – get your advice from God Himself. God knew that man would mess up and confuse the simplicity of the way of life He so graciously designed for us so He took His Plan and put it in a Book. He made that Book readily available from shops everywhere in a variety of simple to read translations. He was so well prepared that when technology became all the rage, He ensured that His Book could be easily downloadable on computers, cellphones and tabs for free! It’s a wonderful Book filled with stories and wisdom and guidelines on how we can please God our Father. There’s no other Book like it!

So if you love the Lord and are interested in finding answers, comfort, peace and prosperity, find a good church, pray from the bottom of your heart and read the best-selling Book authored by the King Himself – read your Bible.

YOUTH CAMP 2013

JESUS, MY PRECIOUS….

Camp is the most anticipated event in our department’s calendar. It is a life-changing event for every person attending. We were calm, collected and unaware of what this weekend held. No matter how we psyche ourselves up each year; we’re never quite ready for what the weekend has in store. We enjoyed a great orientation where we understood the theme of the camp: Jesus, My Precious. Before we knew it, noise and laughter beckoned us. The night literally had no end, sleep eluded us and to our amazement we were ALL wide awake for Saturday: sessions, the beach and more fun. The food was fantastic. Pancakes and eggs for breakfast, pizzas and pastas for lunch, a braai and breyani for supper. Our sessions were so pertinent and powerful. We understood that we need to identify that which is most precious in our lives and go to the greatest extents to protect it. We love the beach. We enjoyed split sessions that we tackled together and became so relevant. People were buried alive in the sand and some were gripping onto their lives as they were dumped in the water. Just when we thought we couldn’t have anymore fun, we were entertained by the adventurous obstacle course as we tackled it literally on all fours! The night just kept getting better. We experienced seizures of laughter as we enjoyed our evening’s show. The bonfire was a breathtaking end to the day. Marshmallows and hot chocolate around the fire changed our lives. We burned our sins in the fire and allowed the King to return to our lives. Thank You God for a perfect camp, thank You for making all things beautiful. Thank you to those who assisted with transport and prayed. Thank you to the parents for trusting us! To our guest speakers, Janine and Timothy, thank you for bringing relevance and spirituality into the camp. To our cook Vivek - you’re a star. And our fantastic, loud bunch of youth: we are so proud of you and we appreciate how you took this camp by the horns and had such a memorable weekend. To those who were initiated, welcome to Youth Club. To those who weren’t there: THERE’S ALWAYS NEXT YEAR!

- Youth Committee

What a camp! Camp 2013 was by far the best camp I’ve ever been on. We sure did justice to screaming, shouting, laughing and not to mention, the musical instruments available. We thank God for blessing us with good weather, safe traveling mercies and memories that will be treasured forever. A big ‘Thank You’ to Timothy, the Youth Committee, our transport providers and Vivek (our cook) - congratulations on a job well done. And finally, thank you to all those who were on camp for a memorable, fun-filled camp and remember: Jesus is OUR PRECIOUS!

LADIES’ BREAKFAST AT ST MONICA’S CHILDREN’S HOME

On Saturday, 4 May 2013, 30 ladies from ICC had the honour and privilege of serving breakfast to almost 100 children. The sumptuous menu of viennas, baked beans, scrambled eggs, toast, tea and coffee was a real treat to the precious children and the sweet treats lit up every child’s face.

We thank God for using us to be a blessing to so many children. In keeping with Mother’s Day, we are glad to have been mothers to children whose mothers are not with them. On behalf of the Ladies’ Fellowship, we thank all those who sponsored in cash and in kind. Thank you also to all those who helped with transport.

Ps. Radha Govender (Ladies’ Fellowship Leader)

Five Reasons why the Bible isthe most important Book on Earth

Reason #1 THE BIBLE HAS TRANSFORMED THE WORLD

A good number of people around the world read portions of this Book every day. It is the most published and printed Book in the history of the world. It has been the world's greatest bestseller year after year

Reason #2 PEOPLE ARE WILLING TO DIE FOR THIS BOOK

People have died torturous deaths simply to gain access to this Book. There are, even now, countries where this Book is discouraged or even banned outright. This Book has been praised, cursed, restricted, banned, desecrated, burned and fought over. Some have tried to eliminate it. All who have tried have failed.

Reason #3: IT’S THE MOST ACCURATE BOOK OF ANTIQUITY

The Bible is the most copied Book of antiquity. Written over a time period of some 1,500 years, it was completed approximately 2,000 years ago. Yet, in all the centuries that have passed, none of its contents have ever been found inaccurate.

Reason #4: IT CONTAINS A LIFE-CHANGING MESSAGE OF FREEDOM

The Bible has liberated many from oppression by its clear teachings. It raises the dignity and rights of every human being ever born. It is truly an amazing and remarkable piece of writing. It will astonish and surprise you and likely move you to tears.

Reason #5:
IT CONNECTS YOU TO HISTORY’S MOST IMPORTANT FIGURE

You may have heard of Jesus of Nazareth, also called the "Christ" (i.e."Anointed One"). You may even think you know Him. But if you have not read the account offered firsthand throughout this Book, you will, in effect, know nothing definite about Him. The entire Old Testament points to His coming, and the entire New Testament testifies to His teachings and actions. More than half of the world today accepts that this Jesus was a great and remarkable Person.
